Epic please reconsider adding these features back, if you don’t then I have very little reason to buy anything that isn’t extensively documented or has some kind of demo. I can’t rely solely on star ratings.
I agree that retaining reviews but improving the Q&A section to reduce harassment is worth considering. However, before suggesting a more complex or burdensome solution for sellers or FAB, can we agree that having text at least in the review section is far better than a system with only ratings and no text at all? Let’s remember that we’re discussing this because there’s currently no text review option, which suggests that FAB may lack either the willingness or the capability to manage a simple solution. So, let’s focus on bringing text reviews back first, instead of veering off-topic and making our request sound overly complicated or unreasonable. Also, I strongly disagree with the recent comment claiming this is to “protect against kids.” This platform is for game developers, not for preschoolers.
Ideally yes but in reality, anyone can fool AI. So, any harassment question with a bit of sarcasm or irony can easily trick it. I mean, for that even to work… AI would need to be a T-1000 Terminator level Lol. We still a couple centuries from that.
- btw, YouTube comment section is a Bully Heaven. They don’t moderate…
Text Reviews with purchase requirement YES.
Question section (like before)… hell NO
Generally speaking, an lot of platforms have an age limit of 13. But I think that this is mostly related to the Fortnite crowd than anything else
Exactly, I don’t know why they are dragging Game Developers with Kids in Fab unnecessary, In my Opinion they should improve Unreal Marketplace along with Fab.
Merging everything was Disaster only Stolen or Low Quality Crap was imported from Sketchfab and Artstation with zero Moderation on Assets
Yep I am pretty much sure. Another Example- they are censoring asset as mature even for including Smoking Cigarettes in Images of Asset (One guy Posted about it in Unreal Slacker Fab Section)
Yeah, and it looks like stuff like alcohol or beer is also setting off the content filter. But with cigarettes, I find it an little bit weird. Yes, I’m aware that there are laws against buying them IRL 99% of the time; but people in my country would freak out about…An relatively short list of the usual things before complaining about an pack of cigs or an box of Budweisers.
But then again, people are litigious, nowadays.
That’s exactly the biggest problem. All you find now are individual 1 dollar scanned assets made on a iphone in a couple of minutes next to a heavily reviewed project that required 25, 50 assets and weeks to be approved. Makes absolutely no sense. They literally allowed all Junk from Sketchfab / Artstation without review requirements and that is lame.
Fab is really concerning for sellers, A lot of sellers are Discussing about Sales Drop after Fab Launch. There are Factors like Local pricing, Wishlist etc. But in my opinion Merging Artstaion and Sketchfab, targeting kids as Primary Audience will Hit Unreal Sellers Hard. Unless in long term assets are specifically created for UEFN which sucks
Yes we can see on market, all I can find on new release-
2D assets AI (Some Unreal Crap and Artstation Crap)
Music AI (Mostly from Artstation)
3D Asset with Copyright (From Sketchfab)
Unreal Assets are there but visibility took serious hit for Unreal even after using Unreal Filter
Well, from an statistical standpoint, it actually does makes sense to cater to as wide of an audience as you can. But I think that this is something that might organically die off within 3 years or so.
Of course, that was part of their plan. Welcome them all (and their trash). Why scare Sketchfab / Artstation Sellers with super strict UE Marketplace asset rules? Image how much time and money (staff) would have been spend if they had done that? FAB would have been release till 2028.
Yes in time, it will get organically fixed… but you talking years and years. But now what? Are they going to clean up the Store like Apple and Google? No they are not. We are all going to get punished for their Greed
Well, people generally vote with their wallets, as far as I can tell. But that kind of relies on the expectation that nobody is actively buying the old stuff from the other websites.
I don’t mean paying with $. I mean consequences. We all going to get punished for their lust of . FAB’s goal is clear: Let’s indulge Devs with free/cheap crap while we decorate the front page with rare AAA astonish graphics. They make real money from Games/Movies, not Assets. It’s why they don’t give a .
Well, this is an bit of an false equivalence. Because, you know, one’s centered around bringing a higher standard of quality. And the other kind of feels like someone’s side hustle, most of the time
3D art a side husle? , I’ve done both and creating Games is easier than doing 3D art. I’ll leave it like that.
I’m glad you agree on the need for text reviews. However, as I mentioned earlier, issues raised by a few should not restrict the rights of the majority. If you’ve looked through most of the Q&A sections, you’ll see that the majority of users are genuinely asking questions, not trying to cause trouble. Simply put, I believe the original Q&A > your suggestion of having authors selectively post questions > removing the Q&A entirely and requiring email inquiries. I think your solution not only makes it harder for platform operators but also adds hassle for creators, especially those with high sales volumes. It would be more efficient for them to answer occasional unhelpful questions in the Q&A section than to handle countless emails and sift through questions. For those confident in their product quality, a few misguided questions shouldn’t be a significant issue and don’t affect the product’s star rating. From a consumer perspective, as I mentioned before, the main reason a product doesn’t sell is not due to a few misguided questions in the Q&A section. Most consumers have the basic judgment to recognise a good product. Even if FAB allowed individual creators to choose between the original Q&A or your suggested approach, I think most would still prefer the original system. Also, as I’ve said, discussing Q&A improvements, such as AI, now is off-topic and a waste of time without text reviews and Q&A. A simple poll would reveal the majority’s opinion, so I won’t discuss Q&A improvements further.
If you’ve seen the concerns raised in forums before FAB launched, preserving text reviews and Q&A was a primary issue. I don’t understand why Epic Games would ignore these concerns, removing these essential features without even conducting a poll or survey. Those text comments weren’t just ratings but were valuable resources and references, providing a historical record of product feedback and valuable insights for new users. During the last marketplace update, many reviews were already deleted, and now it’s happening again. This goes beyond losing the text review function—it’s a sign of how little Epic values developer feedback.
FAB’s only additions seem to be a pricier license option and forcing consumers to purchase products blindly to see their full features. To call this an “evolution” is almost laughable when so many features are actually downgrades: no text reviews, no wishlist, more installation hassles, and more. After more than a decade of using Unreal Engine, this is the first time I’m seriously considering switching to Unity. It’s not just the lack of these features but Epic’s refusal to listen, and poor communication. In the long run, this could seriously impact the quality of the engine; just because there’s no immediate impact now doesn’t mean there won’t be in five or ten years when competitors could surpass it. FAB feels like a purely profit-driven downgrade.
If you read previous comments like u said. It’s pretty obvious. Tons of fake accounts leaving trash, bully, harrasment comments to competitors, then disappearing. Because there was no trace… comment were left published while no one got punished. It was a Scam from a large group of Devs to force lower prices of assets they wanted. They just kept creating fake accounts and leaving trash comments.
Now, you can say it was a few and the shiny majority should not be punished but I DISAGREE with that. Why? because they chose their victims… that group was accustom to Free or cheap stuff and if a New Seller got a product approved with a high price tag… they just rain junk on their product’s page and disappear with a Fake account (to avoid bans).
Moreover, if you add the Discord mess, You would know why FAB has opted for star-only rating! Those M-F Devs abused the system and now we all have to pay for it. Simple as that.
Really, after what they’ve done? Lol. Only thing I can take a positive from their store is the “Pay for Upgrades”. Epic still don’t have the balls to ask Devs to pay for more money to support Artist. They just want to pamper them and suk their souls 24/7
Well said! Although it possibly feeds the Troll, well said!
