this happened to me too; what i ended up doing was re-installing the engine and somehow for some reason, the fab store reappeared for me. this issue and the plugins not installing issue are pretty huge issues and they seem to be happening to everyone. i really hope epic fixes these things soon

Me too how to fix it bro?

Same error here + with the Quixel Bridge plugin - I can’t seem to trigger the re-download, and it doesn’t appear in cache anywhere.

fab not showing no where

Hi everyone,

Acknowledging that the team has seen this thread and we are investigating. Please stay tuned for more.

Would like to add I am also experiencing this issue. Verified my UE 5.7.4 installation and still unable to access fab through the engine.

Same issues here, spent hours troubleshooting it with no luck.

Epic Laucher Library - After installing Engine Version 5.8, it says Fab and Quixel are installed as if by default. They are not. They don’t show up in the project and I don’t see them in the 5.8 plugins folder. If I go back to Epic Launcher and try to remove them to reinstall them, I get the same Win-2 errors as others here.

Try to click on “Installed Plugins” and it doesn’t open. Close out the launcher, open it again, click on “Installed Plugins” and Fab and Quixel are again shown in “Installed Plugins”. Repeat the loop.

I’ve tried verifying 5.8, removing and reinstalling 5.8, removing and reinstalling the launcher, same result.

I tried moving the Fab plugin folder from 5.7 into 5.8, doesn’t work - the system catches the mismatch.

I also tried creating empty Fab plugin folder, that didn’t work either.

Hope this insight helps.

I get this on the log when I try to install the plugin for 5.8
this is a SHAME bc fab is where I could get the assets to test the new MCP plugin and PCG updates…

[Please see my next post if this is not much clear to you]
I had this problem and fixed it. I had actually tried many other possible solutions like:
Clear caches
Uninstall and reinstal
Run as admin
Clean registry keys
Change DNS to Google

Actually two actions helped me:

  1. Exclude Epic folders from your Antivirus (this partially fixed some errors, like the screenshot shown above for uninstalling)
  2. Exit the launcher (from windows tray) Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\Data\Manifests, open manifest files in a text editor (notice your engine version and look for “Fab UE Plugin” in these files), then check CompleteManifestPath, you need to rename an existing file in the specified path.
  3. Open Launcher as admin, remove the plugin (this time it should remove without error) and install it from the library below.

im confused

can you go into more detail about this please

I think my initial solution was not much clear. Let me explain:

  1. Quit Epic Game Launcher (note that you need to quit from Windows tray, just closing it is not enough).
  2. On Windows explorer, go to this folder: "C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\Data\Manifests"
  3. You see some files with extension *.item. These files are text files and you can open them with Notepad. Open them one by one until you find the one that has “Fab UE Plugin” and “UE_5.8”.
  4. In the file you found, you will see “CompleteManifestPath” which points to a file that does not exist on your computer. for example it could be "C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.8\.egstore\D281E2099B041A5F83B6313C78A51F4.manifest", copy "D281E2099B041A5F83B6313C78A51F4" from this path (it is actually the name of the file you just opened).
  5. Go to the path you found in the previous step, in my example "C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.8\.egstore". Here you see some *.manifest files. One of these files must be renamed to what you had previously copied (in my example "D281E2099B041A5F83B6313C78A51F4"). So the new name becomes "D281E2099B041A5F83B6313C78A51F4.manifest".
We don’t know which file must be renamed and you need to do this by trial and error. If you see a manifest with size of 377kb, try that first.
  6. Run Epic Game Launcher again as Admin and remove the problematic plugins. Then in the library, search for Fab and install from there.

I followed the steps you outlined here and was able to successfully reinstall the Fab plugin! Thank you!

A note to those who come after: following these steps resulted in needing to repair my engine installation (and redownload all of the optional components and plugins I use). It’s not clear to me whether following these steps actually resolved the issue, or whether the core problem was resolved by simply repairing from the latest version of the launcher.

Glad to hear it is fixed. I don’t remember if I needed re-install or not, as I had tried many different solutions at that point.

Such a relief to know that I’m not the only one.

Thank you, this fixed the issues for me.

Worked for me, too! Thanks so much.

Hi Elena,

Have you figured out the issue?

I’ve had this same issue since I updated to 5.8.

After trying everything I gave up and ‘fixed’ the issue by; backing up all my files and using Reset My PC, Keep Files, and Local Install to just reinstall Windows.

Giving your PC a fresh start might be the fast option for those, like me, who are not tech savvy.

Good luck to all!
