Fab is now available in the Epic Games Launcher, making it faster and more convenient to grab Fab marketplace content for your projects. Access Fab’s entire library of diverse assets—and all of your Fab acquisitions—without having to leave the Launcher.
I’d love to try it but I have been stuck with this since 8AM this morning, it is almost 6PM now
Happens everywhere, in launcher, in-engine fab button, website.
Tried other browsers, other devices, resetting router, clearing browser, incognito etc nothing works.
Edit;
It is now 14:52PM the next day and still unable to access FAB or any of my assets xD
Edit 2;
It is now tuesday september 23rd and still unable to access. Will probably keep updating this with new findings in case anyone else also runs into it at some point
Edit 3;
After 12 days I’ve regained access. In case anyone else runs into this, after having tried several things incl what support recommeneded in the end what I did was log out from every Epic Games service and not touch it at all for 5 days
Can you click on the cog icon in top-right corner to open Fab settings and make sure you’ve set your default export target and download format to Unreal Engine. Try again to see if that helps?
Jesus, when I thought the launcher couldn’t be more broken, you surprised us all … well done. I can’t even access half of my assets anymore and the filters do nothing now.
The error just pops out, without asking for which project I would want to add it to.
But also, even if it would work it wouldn’t be good workaround as I work with multiple DCCs and multiple engine version on multiple projects. So having just one preffered format for one engine version is not optimal.
Also for extra context, when I open it up I don’t have this part for adding it to project:
Well, Fab’s search engine doesn’t actually look for the product name — it just grabs all the products that contain those words, or sometimes similar ones, and throws them into a random list.
Look, if I search for “residential houses,” the one that matches my search comes up in 5th place, but honestly it could’ve shown up in 20th. Before mine, there are some books and even some assets that don’t even have “houses” in the name, or not in the plural form and not even residential.
How does this keep happening over and over and over again? The In-Launcher Fab is the same slow and laggy one as the one integrated within the engine as a plugin. The UI is so slow and clunky there’s no point using it instead of the web browser version, which runs smoothly.
I don’t get it. These things take months to develop. Is there no one on the web UI team who cares about performance and why it matters?
The more you scroll and the more content is loaded, the more scrolling grinds down to a halt, and at some point the scrollbar just stops working altogether. Exactly the same issue that’s been happening with FAB engine plugin ever since it has been released.
Yes, it sort of does mediocre job when you sort by relevance, but completely breaks down as soon as you try to sort using anything else (like Newest, Low Price, etc…) Essentially, there’s no point of having the “Sort by” dropdown menu once the search field has some text in it. The only scenario where Sort by methods are useful is when sorting category results without any searched term.
It’s still extreme slow. If I click on any of my purchased assets under UE library from the Epic Games Launcher it takes about 4 minutes staring on a blank dark grey screen from the Launcher until the Epic Game Launcher responds again. Each time, each click. Sometimes I get the asset on Fab and a purple reconnecting header on top of Fab. Sometimes I get some “Opps! Something went wrong…”. In either case the hole time my HDD is making heavy loading noise. Like it’s trying to load everything from the vault first. Note: Since I don’t install my vault assets again and again and again each day I’ve put all vault downloads on a slower but big HDD and not on my SSDs (that remain for stuff I use regullary). Even clicking directly on “Fab” after starting the launcher takes incredible long (like broken long) - with same loading noise.
You broke the launcher asset section. Before, when I clicked on the an asset title, it opened the marketplace / fab page in a browser. Now it tries to open the fab page in the launcher and only leads to a “page not found” error.
Just revert it back to open the assets in the website, I do not want and will never use fab in the bugged launcher.
@spacegojira we’re trying to replicate the issue but haven’t been able to so far. Can you go to the Fab tab and search for the asset that results in “page not found” error. Click on it to open it once in right panel and close it. Now go back to the old Fab library under Unreal Engine tab and click again on the asset to see if you still run into the error?
@KomalOffice it happens with every single asset I own (I have hundreds, so I can’t click through all of them).
As soon as I click on the title, it loads the FAB page in the launcher for a second, then throws me to the following error page. I also cannot go back anymore, forcing me to close the launcher and manually start it again to be able to go back to the library or use it in any way..
I just updated the launcher, so that’s not the problem. In my settings I only have “enable offline browsing” and “hide game library” enabled.
The problem is that it can’t load the pages inside the launcher. Thus please revert it back to open the pages in the browser, or at least give us an option for that (where to load asset pages) in the launcher settings, as FAB in the launcher is much slower than my web-browser.
Hi @spacegojira - the issue is under investigation, so we don’t have any updates to share just yet. We’re however actively working on improving the Fab in launcher experience so that the transition from the old Fab library under Unreal Engine is smoother.
In the meantime, you can still open the asset links in browser using Ctrl/Cmd + click or middle mouse click.
