FAB feedback as a customer and a seller

I believe some were yes. Unfortunately I don’t know what the links to them were because it was in the initial launch and I spent about an hour just looking at item after item that was a legal issue… but I’d recommend anything you “purchased” (even if it was free) after FAB launched be treated as unusable without further research sadly

Its frustrating to hear, from multiple sources now, that people from the other storefronts similarly feel like this is a downgrade… It seems like everyone has gotten a bad deal with this and that’s incredibly disappointing. The idea of a unified storefront for us all is great in theory and hopefully they can get it there but I really do wish there had been some overlap in the old stores and FAB where Epic could have gathered feedback and tested things rather then just pulling the rug out from under us.

Well, the only things that might be an issue is an massive set of road signs, some firearms, and a set of military vehicles. Since, if there’s one guy who’s openly admitting that he’s ripping character models out of game and selling them for profit; I really don’t have the means of verifying if the latest set of free stuff is legally safe to use for commercial purposes

Yeah… the fact that the Dragonball Z model that I linked above, which has been the main one I’ve seen linked everywhere is still up tells me that nothing has been done about any of the illegal content so far… I’d be very cautious using anything that you acquired post-FAB launch sadly. I don’t know how you’d verify anything =/

This is a bit ridiculous at this point… This thread is a week old, and theres plenty of others highlighting issues, in particular the copyright stuff… now it looks like they are taking legitimate products down (see reddit post here) but the dragonball z model, and all the others I’ve looked for, are still there lol… three different epic staff have responded to this thread and the ones linked directly IN THIS THREAD still haven’t even been dealt with. That doesn’t give a lot of promise

Mhmmmmm.

I posted a list of IP infringing stuff here: FAB & Issues with IP Infringement (copied, ripped, or stolen meshes) - #11 by Krabworks

Only took me maybe 15 minutes to find all these, many are meshes ripped from other games. Very few things from this list have been taken down, but legitimate products are being removed.

Seems a lot of the things tagged ‘Fan Art’ are untouched.

If FAB is a FanArt host now please let us know so that we can stop using it and find another market that is actually suitable for game developers.

This was more or less the point of SketchFab from what little that I’ve seen of it. Speaking of which, I find it an little bit entertaining to watch Epic buy out the competition and gradually delete an sizeable portion of their content. Although, it’s mostly justified, in this case

I’m going to be brutally honest here, Fab needed at least six months more work at minimum. The fact that it’s missing so many vital features across the multiple storefronts it was combining is inexcusable, nevermind the lackluster performance. Seriously, why anyone think wishlisting and reviews weren’t essential features for 1.0?

It’s a continuation of Epic having a bad habit of releasing products in a woefully underbaked state - Unreal Engine 5.0 (UE5 has gotten better since then but Epic has been too slow to address issues of shader compilation stutter, traversal stutter and limited multithreading that commonly plague Unreal Engine games), the Epic Games Store (still frankly a worthless pile of junk by PC storefront standards, which is the main reason why it’s still unable to meaningfully compete with Steam) and now this. Nevermind this is another instance of releasing a product that’s woefully lacking compared to other similar products out there as well (including the very storefronts it’s supposed to be replacing!). Not dealing with Sketchfab’s copyright issues right off the bat before release wasn’t a good look, either.

Honestly, if everything reverted back to how it was pre-Fab it would be better for everyone involved.

Very much agreed. Unfortunately companies these days seem totally allergic to admitting mistakes and rolling back when things go wrong.

Having separate stores for separate use-cases was a good system…mashing them all together, it’s totally unsurprising that it doesn’t really work. Kids that are Hobbyists make miniatures and Game Devs or architects doing Archviz have different needs that can’t be serviced by the same approach.

To give credit where credit is due…

The dragonball z model is now gone. Clicking on the link to it gives a “page not found”. I also did some searching and cannot find a lot of the stuff I was seeing originally - “Kingdom Hearts” for instance returned a bunch of keyblade models and such, and “Mario” gave a lot of mario models… It does look like efforts are being made to clean things up. Though I also worry that the DBZ model was removed specifically because the user said they didn’t make it lol

That said - all the links I tried in your post are still there… so it is hard to tell if maybe they are improving the search and its given more specific results without the copyrighted material in or if stuff is actually being taken down (aside from the Dragonball Z model lol)

But… it does look like something is happening at least.

Its very frustrating because I think the idea of a unified storefront has great potential… but it needs so much more care than has been given here

ADDITION: Sigh. I have no proof of this obviously - but I think that DBZ model was removed specifically because its been highlighted in a lot of places (either by epic or the “creator”)… Everything else by that creator is STILL THERE and a lot of them have the same “this is not my model but give me money cause i worked so hard to rip it from a game” bs lol

You’re NOT wrong. There’s compelling evidence now post-covid, that all firms (globally) have competely retrenched from offering any kind of support to users for anything. Its all about the investors and the CEO bonus now… True ultra-capitalism. Nothing else. Listening to feedback? How very 1990’s / 2000’s of you. What can you say? Not much. Not much will change anyway, unless Consumers / Indies worldwide start to union organize or something.

There’s a massive shift in business to outside ‘expert’ consultants who set policy on everything. From PR types to accounting / consulting firms that interfere on everything (even if the end result is mostly toxic). User feedback? Worthless. So nothing is going to change. Why? The average dev on here knew what was coming and warned Epic repeatedly, even pleaded with them, to take more time launching Fab. Was any of that advice listened to? And we know they had it, because of the previous Marketplace revamp that went south.

There’s no shame anymore. Its all down to corporate boardrooms being totally insulated from reality thanks to internet distance (never again having to face customers in the street). So reality for management has become fuzzy. Its only going to get worse from here too. You see it most with airlines / airports. It’d have been unthinkable to treat passengers really badly a decade ago. Now? Airlines take pride in insulting customers publicly. WTF? This is it folks… You get the support you deserve… Maybe its time to fly less / buy less. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I see others have commented on some of my other issues so I won’t repeat. However I wish the ability to sort by Owned or not Owned was an option. I also wish each asset had a number associated with it. So you could copy the number email it to someone else so they could search for that number and find the exact same asset without having to search in the haystack for it. I’m sure this will improve but my god this feels so clunky right now.

I think better Idea would be to Share Product Link instead of Number, Although I agree with that Owned product shouldn’t be included in Search Result

Is it? It shows up for me (if we are talking about the same one: https://www.fab.com/listings/29b6cc75-d6ea-4867-baf7-2e369b56f140 )

if it didn’t show up for you it’s because of instability of the platform (had that a few times that thing just didn’t show up… very hard to reproduce though, so didn’t submit a bug report)

It’s rather some kind of platform issue, so probably nothing is going on about those models. And I doubt anything will be done until copyright holders start issuing DMCAs or big news outlets start writing about it.

(it seems like that person just changed description, so he isn’t now bragging how he used his skills to rip the model from the game)

Haha nope, that’s just ANOTHER dragonball z model by the same creator. The one I’d seen linked was actually of… er I don’t know DBZ well at all but it was another one haha. The link to that one was here: https://www.fab.com/listings/6bc60fb5-9ba1-4a82-9a41-2807f564af12 which now shows page not found

Interesting, because I saw the other one mentioned everywhere too. I even tweeted at Tim and official DBZ account about it (and I was not the only one doing it) to raise awareness of the issue. And I thought at some point that it was taken down as the link wasn’t working. But it was a platform issue most likely.

…you are right lol. Clicking on the link I gave you now works again. Sigh.
And yep - the creator has removed the bit about the model not being their work -.-
The character was Frieza btw :stuck_out_tongue:

May I suggest a feature for the upcoming planned FAQ page? What if customers were allowed to submit question requests that if approved by the seller would show up publically with an answer? that way sellers can filter/delete out anything they deem abuse or spam but still get questions directly from users, for me personally as a seller its hard to gauge what kind of stuff would be asked about my product.
