Fab assets' textures turns black

I installed Unreal engine 5.5.4 2 days ago, It was working fine till yesterday but now whenever i import an asset from Fab, the textures turns completely black

This is happening with every new asset that I’ve tried adding in my level. The assets that i had already imported sometime ago are working completely fine

I’ve had this for months now, it’s really irritating.

The solution is to find the texture in the asset browser, right-click, and choose ‘Asset actions → Reload’.

I have to fix about 10, every time I start the project

It’s related to the amount of time since you’ve seen the texture, but not always.

Hello @Zeusyy_69 & @ClockworkOcean , thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have tried to reproduce the issue, however the results were unfortunately not similar. Could you please share more details regarding this problem:
-Is this the first time you are facing this issue in 5.4.4? Were the assets working fine in this version before?
-Did it occur after updating your UE version?
-Kindly share your GPU driver name and version
-Is there any chance that you had modified the MS Presets file?

Kindly get back to us with these details on our support channel here, so that we can assist you accordingly.

Hi @Urooj.shahzadi

Thanks for picking this up

I think it’s an engine issue, not Quixel / FAB.

It affects any texture, from any source ( or asset pack ). It will affect different textures over time. Asset reload always fixes it.

I just found a new example

Right-click reload

( Just found some more… )

Typically, I notice it during PIE, something will look just shiny black. Find the material, go to the texture, and voila, black texture. Reload and it’s fine again.

Before, but can’t say when, unfortunately

-Did it occur after updating your UE version?

I think it’s pretty much always happened with 5.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 / Studio driver 566.36 ( but has happened with other driver versions.

Like I say, it’s not a MS related problem.

Same thing on buggy textures - once they all glowing emissive - had to open the textures - tires, chassis to return as it was.
Ultra dynamic sky - sometime the stars wouldn’t flicker on high settings(they should if effect enabled) - had to open the stars texture and it worked again.
RX 470 AMD.

We experience the same. I can confirm its very random nature. It happens sometimes to some textures, I didn’t see anything in common between them. It also causes the game to stutter when next to these objects. Reloading assets helps. It happened on several working machines with different hardware. We didn’t find a way to reproduce it, it just happens sometimes.
