What is causing this kind of extrusions? On the back of the shaft. Is it misaligned cameras? How would I go about fixing this? I have added a whole bunch of control points on all images around the area. But I don’t seem to be able to get any noticable differences when I run alignment again, and the extrusion error persists. I guess I could fix it in retouch, but I want to learn.
Hi Arvify, yes, this is a result of misaligned cameras. How did you capture your images? I can see, that you have quite big errors on the control points. Are you using camera rig?

Thanks for the reply! I photographed with the shoe on a turntable with white backgrounds. But I also have newspaper under and beside the shoe (as targets), since it’s black leather, it kinda needs that for the alignment. I see a few camera position that I assume are aligned in a wrong position, how can I make sure which ones? The big errors in control points comes from wrongly aligned camera positions I assume? They are correctly placed on the images, and the errors comes from RC suggesting wrong positions, when I adjust to the correct position. How can I convince RC that my placements are right? I have managed to get better alignment after placing control points on earlier, but sometimes it’s really stubborn and faster to re-shoot everything and add more patterns/newspaper to get alignment correct from the start.
You can use Inspect Quality tool and play with settings to see, which cameras are badly aligned. Also, you can select these points on the aligned model and then use Find Images tool in Registration & Sparse point cloud to see, which images are related to this area.
You can also cover the shoe with some texture for better alignment. Yes, the big errors should come from these cameras, but this error is also related to quality of control point measurement on that particular image. So it is connected. You can set the higher weight for these points where you are 100 % sure with the points placement.
For you it could be a good idea to use some base with circle targets, which could be measured automatically with RC. Also, it is a good idea to get more images of this problematic area.
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check it out. I’ve been playing with the weight of my control points now. It seems to introduce more errors rather than fixing it, I guess because my manual control points aren’t 100% totally accurate to the decimal, and I weighted pretty hard.
“Point Lasso” and “Find Images” seem to do the trick. Looks like I suspected the wrong camera positions. Adding Control Points to the images that actually are misaligned improves the mesh, I got rid of the “extruded” part. Still a lot of small misalignments I want to fix, but for each time it looks a bit cleaner.
