I saw some similar posts but none seemed to be resolved so I had decided to post one for myself. Essentially whenever i start the Epic Games launcher or whenever Unreal Engine is running my internet slows down to a crawl.
Running some internet ping tests I see that: With both closed download speed ~ 30Mb/s. With the launcher open it is a measly .09Mb/s. When they are both running it is ~.01Mb/s and when only the engine is running it is ~3.7Mb/s. Latency and upload speeds remain more or less constant.
I share a router and typically if one on the line is downloading something they take up most of the bandwidth so everyone else’s internet is slow down. But when the launcher or unreal engine is running, all the other devices are not affected (I.E. I know its not some download taking up bandwidth).
I’ve had this issue for at least a year.
Nobody seems to have a solution for it.
It’s super annoying because when I work in UE I sometimes need to google stuff and then I just sit there and wait for the page to load as if I were on a nostalgia trip back to 1996.
So I fixed this issue simply by buying a new Router. It turned out that the previous router I was using was old enough to not be compatible with Epics internetsing.
It’s a shame that there is no software-solution for this.
