Hello, I’m new to Unreal Engine.
I’m experiencing an audio issue with Ultra Dynamic Weather (UDW) in Unreal Engine and would appreciate some assistance.
Environment
Unreal Engine: 5.8.3
Asset: Ultra Dynamic Sky / Ultra Dynamic Weather
OS: Windows
Issue Description
Whenever I start Play In Editor (PIE) with Ultra Dynamic Weather’s weather sound effects enabled, an extremely loud popping/clicking sound occurs immediately when gameplay starts. The sound happens only once, at the beginning of PIE. It does not continue during gameplay.Additionally, I cannot hear the expected weather sounds, such as rain and thunder, during gameplay.
Troubleshooting Results
・Remove the Ultra_Dynamic_Weather actor from the level
No popping sound
・Disable Enable Weather Sound Effects
No popping sound
・Enable Enable Weather Sound Effects
Loud popping sound
・Set Weather Sounds Master Volume to 0
No popping sound
・Use only Directional Sound Asset (Global set to None)
Popping sound
・Use only Global Sound Asset (Directional set to None)
Popping sound
・Set both Directional and Global Sound Assets to None
No popping sound
・The issue does not appear to be isolated to just one of the two weather sound assets.
Steps Already Taken
1.Reinstalled/Updated the Asset
I reinstalled/updated Ultra Dynamic Sky through Epic Games Launcher and tested it in a separate project, Sokubaku_HE2.The problem persisted.
2.Tested the Directional Weather MetaSound
I opened:
UDS_Directional_WeatherSounds
When previewing this MetaSound directly, no audio was audible.
I checked the following parameters:
Rain Intensity: default 0.0
Rain Volume Multiplier: default 1.0
I temporarily changed Rain Intensity to 1.0 and tried previewing again, but the MetaSound remained silent.
3.Inspected UDS_Rain_Loop
I examined the UDS_Rain_Loop MetaSound graph, which contains:
Light Rain
Heavy Rain
Rain Hits
Wave Player nodes
UDS_LoopingSoundControl
The Heavy Rain Sounds array contains two assigned Sound Wave assets:
MediumRain_1
MediumRain_2
4.Tested an Individual Sound Wave
I previewed MediumRain_1 directly from the Content Browser. It played normally, without any popping or clicking noise.
This suggests that at least this individual Sound Wave can play correctly.
5.Inspected the Ultra_Dynamic_Weather Blueprint
I found the following Audio Components:
Sound_Directional
Sound_Global
Sound_Mixer
I also inspected the Static Properties - Sound Effects function.
This function loads the directional and global sound assets, assigns them using Set Sound, applies sound-related settings, and then calls Play on Sound_Directional, Sound_Global, and Sound_Mixer.
I have not yet confirmed whether this initialization/playback sequence is responsible for the popping sound.
Questions
・Is this a known issue with Ultra Dynamic Weather or its MetaSound-based weather audio system?
・Are there any recommended fixes for a loud popping sound occurring specifically when PIE starts?
・Could this be related to the initialization of Sound_Directional, Sound_Global, or Sound_Mixer?
・Why might the weather MetaSound preview be silent while starting PIE produces a loud pop?
・Could the missing rain/thunder audio during gameplay be related to the same issue?
・Is there a recommended Blueprint or MetaSound configuration to prevent this issue while keeping weather sound effects enabled?
・Ideally, I would like to use UDW’s built-in rain and thunder audio in my game. However, if this issue cannot be resolved, I would also be happy to use UDW only for its visual weather effects and implement rain and thunder sounds separately using my own audio assets.
If that is a more practical solution, could you please advise me on how to completely disable UDW’s weather audio system while keeping its visual weather effects working normally, without causing any popping sounds?
I’m not sure if this is related, but I can’t seem to implement sounds like footsteps or doors opening either.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
