Exporting Registration to respect re-orientation (Define Ground Plane)?

This is similiar in nature to the other post I recently made, but separate enough to keep in new thread:

If I reorient scan to be more or less on XYZ axis, using ‘Define Ground Plane’, is there any way to keep that orientation when exporting parts of that project using ‘Registration’? Right now, when importing this as ‘Component’ into new empty project, re-orientation is lost.

Hi andrew,

not sure what exactly you need it for but you could also just ex- and import a reconstruction region that you create in the mother-project. Imported in the new one, it should have (I think) the same relative orientation to the mesh than in the old one, at least if the absolute coordinates are identical which I assume from your other post (which is this one: https://support.capturingreality.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115003710712-Matching-orientation-scale-from-one-align-re-oriented-to-new-one-with-same-XML-data?page=1#community_comment_115001294431).

Is there an export/import feature for reconstruction region? Didn’t notice that, can you help me find it? Not sure if it helps me in this case though - I need to export alignment of selected cameras within larger projects (so I’d have things within bounding box that I DON’T want exported).

I don’t use define ground plane…

If you want to have consistent outputs. so the models all line up each time you export. you need to setup up proper co-ordinates.

I set both project and output co-ordinates systems. to the real-world co-ordinates based off UTM. I then manually add the x,y offset to move the model back near zero. I’ll save this number somewhere else and re-use it each time i want to export a new model.

works much better to get files in and out of rc consistently.

Hi chris,

finally I understand what this offset is for! I guess many programs are funny about huge coordinates…
