Exporting from C4D to Unreal

Hi, I am new to unreal. I have create a Virtual Set in C4D and brought it in unreal using Datasmith. The model is imported correctly but materials have not come the way it should. I have used basic C4D materials and no maps. A solution would be of great help

Hello Vikram,

are you using Unreal 5.0/5.1 and Cinema 4d 2023 and the Datasmith plugin from
Cinema 4D - Unreal Integration ?
Could you post a screenshot of Unreal and a screenshot of how it looks like in Cinema?
If you could also post an example C4D file with a material that’s not working, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks,
Arthur

Hi Arthur, firstly thanks for you reply. I am using unreal 4.23.3 and Cinema 4d R20. Yes I have imported the Cinema 4d into unreal using Datasmith plugin. Sharing screenshots and Cinema 4d file for your reference.
Thanks,
Vikram.

Hi Arthur, I am not able to share the files through this forum. It would be kind of you if you could let me know how to share it or share your email id. Also it would be great if you could guide me about materialing and lighting specificaly for virtual sets in unreal. Would it be advisable to do material and lightning in C4D and get it to unreal or do it in unreal itself. Tips on how to get the same effect visually when exported from C4D in unreal .
Thanks,
Vikram.

Hello Vikram,

I have to ask, could you not first update your engine and its corresponding plugin to a recent version of the engine? 4.23 is almost 4 years old.

If you have to stay on this specific Unreal version, there is sadly not much we could help you with. The general advice would be to create the materials and lighting in Unreal and create in Cinema only the geometry.

Hay thanks for your advice :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi. Yes I know. I will try to sort with the new version. Thankyou.
