Fighter5437 suggested I watch this tutorial null - YouTube because of a few questions I had. That helped SOOOO MUCH so a huge THANK YOU to Fighter for suggesting that. I also want to say, it’s been like 6 hours now and I’m still watching the videos. Got like 3 videos left in that tutorial.
My question here is, AT THE MOMENT, I am interested in just throwing up random levels and importing some free FBX files of different characters I find around the Internet and just run around as that char.
Every time I make a new level, do I have to go thru this whole 6 hour process again just to animate my new char and be able to run around the level as them? Or is there some super easy shortcut I haven’t learned yet to where I can just re-skin my plain yellow guy the above tutorial had me make?
Because as I stated, it’s fun to find a model of Batman, or Superman, or some random character someone made and just run around as them.
Because after watching the 19 out of 22 tutorial videos so far, there is no way I remember what tutorial #1 told me to do. As I have paused and went to eat dinner, I’ve paused to message people on steam, ect. So by time I reach the 22nd video, I’m most likely gonna spend tomorrow night re-watching all 22 videos again just to refresh my memory.
It takes time for it to become second nature, you are doing part time what pros do full time so the same time investment and muscle memory is not there yet. Give yourself time. I am in exactly same position and I also have only watched the once over.
You shouldn’t have to redo everything, just reimport that level or save another one based on that iteration. The only thing you should be doing is re-rigging new characters.
That’s what I was hoping, that I wouldn’t have to re-do everything. Since I’ll have the BPs and stuff saved already. I’ll just have to add them to the new chars. I just need to figure out which steps I have to add and I’ll be set to have my moment of fun running around an empty level as diff chars.
I got 3 videos left to watch in the tutorial I’m going to finish those up tonight when I get off work and have my current project the same as the tutorial, then I will start trying to figure out what I can keep and what I have to re-do to import a new char.
What would I need to change to get a new character in? As the tutorial just showed us how to import the default UE4 mannequin, i would like to reskin the mannequin to lets say Superman or Batman. Is it easy to just import the FBX file of Superman and merge him with my current animations?
if you want a custom character you will want a custom rigg and animation set aswell… Setting it up in ue4 is simple… just alter the default player to be your custom one, then when you make a new level just do it within the same project file.
I have a basic character Rigg that you can use, it uses IK for the skeleton making it allot easier for animation… the current mesh however is a rework of the mannequin so it works with the new rigg though
Yea at this point it all sounds like rocket science but seems fairly simple. Gonna keep searching and not stop until I figure this out tonite. Guess I need to go ahead and fix a pot of coffee, gonna be a long night.
it’s not really complicated, its just a learning curve… Character design and development takes a good amount of time, At work we spend around 15+ hours per AI design and nearly 100+ hours on unique character designs… Saying that, Design process speeds up as the project moves on, cause everyone gets the feel of what works
That makes sense. At the moment I’m just wanting to use some of the random characters I found on this website: http://tf3dm.com/3d-models/characters/1/fbx, and import them into the 3rd person game mode in UE4 and just mess around with them.
At the moment I don’t have any character creation program installed. Its actually a funny story of how I came across UE4. I was browsing different sites that sell bundled games at discounted prices and I found RPG Maker VX Ace + all the DLC for $8, original price $453. So I bought it and gave it a try and was having fun. Right after that I went onto FB and very top of my page was a Suggested AD of UE4 for free. So I downloaded it 4 days ago and started messing around in it.
How to import a character i downloaded from a website.
Change the default mannequin in 3rd person game to the one I just downloaded.
How to make that character actually run around and not just float.
Only took me 3 days and 1 day of no sleep to figure it out.
Last question, FOR NOW! lol. is there any way to get all the maximo animations since they are currently free, without having to get a character skin with it?
