Errors in disc space in exporting mask

Dear Reality Scan/ capture experts,

As a hobbyist, I’m still using PPI Reality Capture 3.1. For several years now, I’ve been stuck trying to get a model the way I want with the data set I have. It involves two halves of a model, two components that I want to seamlessly merge into a single component. For the old version of Reality Capture, I stocked up on a large number of PPI credits, which I would like to use to finalize my models. To turn my “horror” model into a single component, I’ve already tried various options and followed several tutorials, from merging components to using control points. Now I have one option left using masking, based on this tutorial, “Scan objects from all sides using Masks”:

When exporting the mask and depth, PPI credits are used, but I see that this uses a lot of storage space on the C drive (>12GB ) every time giving an error (see attachement).

When I make space in the proces, I get the next error.

In my workflow, I work from various other drives because my C drive has little to no memory/storage left. How can I still export the mask without using the C drive? Is there a way to replace the C drive with another drive that has more space?

Also will the PPI version in exporting the final model use the C-drive for export as well?

Hope you can help me on my way.

Regards,

Youri, the Netherlands

Hi Youri @Swerfer8,

I’m the original author of that video. Please do not use PPI credist and RC 1.3 anymore, you are only complicating things for yourself with the locked projects, server communication, etc. There have been huge updates since that version. The legacy licensing system will be shut down anyway this August, see the announcement:

From RC 1.4 a few years back, we removed the legacy licensing. You can run RealityCapture and RealityScan for free now as a hobbyist. No strings attached.

Also, the masking workflow you describe is the old one, which we no longer recommend. We implemented AI masking since RS 2.0. Check out the tutorial:

The issue is occurring in a version we don’t officially support, and we don’t have the capacity to look into it. Please try to finish your work in the latest version RS 2.1.1, and if you keep experiencing problems, we’ll look into it. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I want to update my RC to the newest version, but over the years I have gained allot of credits for PPI, is a refund possible? In all my hobby years working with RC I have made hobby models in the hope to get them meshed/ constructed with the PPI system. Updating to the newest working version, can my final models still be reconstructed as is, or will al be lost and do I have to start them over from scratch? This information is crusial for me to upgrade my 1.3 version:sweat_smile:. Kind Regards,

Youri

Refunds are not possible; it has not been possible to buy PPI credits for the past 2 years. It is possible to remove the PPI lock with the new RS versions, but you have to do it before the servers are shut down. All the info is in the announcement.
