Equirectangular 360 images alignment ?

Hi guys,

I have come across numerous post on the forum, about 360 images alignment, but get some pretty blurry / noisy info at the end.

Is it possible to import ONLY 360 equirectangular images, and align them in 3D space with reality capture ?

Thanks for your lights !

Cheers

E

Hello Emmanuel,

No, it is not possible. You can use the source images (if you have them) that were used to stitch the equirectangular panorama. However, we do not recommend this capturing technique. Photogrammetry needs parallax between images and shooting images for panoramas have zero or very small parallax and therefore are not good for photogrammetry.

Hello Jakub,
Thanks for your fast answer, i agree it’s not very elegant, but i need to rebuild some buildings from 360 equirec google street view images. I guess the only option in this scenario is to extract cube map images from them, and import the splitted images.

I’m curious, did that technique work? I’m interested in doing a similar approach for the high resolution images my FARO Focus generates.
