Epic you should be ashamed of yourself, with all the billions you have and all the high level developers and you can't build a working "stop and resume" download function

Need to download Red Dead Redemption 2 which is 120 Gb, because off course it is, why not pack the offline and online separately? that would had been too much work.

Downloaded 50Gb, paused the download, next day it resume, downloads 70 Gb starts verifying all the files for 1 hour, proceeded to delete!!! all the 70Gb files it downloaded then starts to download them again.

Which who guarantees that once it ends downloading the files it will not delete them and download again? Because why not.

No one.

Are you expecting me to download all 120Gb in one go? is this how your 300k/year devs programmed your app?

bugs happen dude. did you file a bug report? nobody anywhere is feeling shamed because one person on the internet found a bug.

if enough people have the issue and report it, it might be fixed.

what bug? do you think the developers didn’t added servers logs to check why the launcher downloads stuff all over again. This is not the first time it happens but I can handle if it re downloads 10 Gb but is not acceptable for a game that is 120Gb.

hope is clear. dude.

200Gb of badwith later, it installed, played the game a few times. then the game menu doesn’t work anymore :man_shrugging: online forums said, check files. I check files, epic deletes half the game and starts downloading 65 Gb.

Epic can I play this game or you want me to download 1Tb of data first?

aftyer the epic launcher deleted 70 GB of data (and left 50 GB intact) it proceeded to re download these 70 Gb again

then after verifying and installing the files exhibit image A it DELETED THE 50GB that was left untouched initially and started to download them again. Exhibit Image B. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

what do I do? epic, do you know how can I play this game?

btw thanks for ignoring me.

32 billion dollar company

still trying to download the game with the installer continuously checking and deleting huge chunks of stuff already downloaded

finishing the download from yesterday

game folder has full game downloaded

epic launcher deletes another 20 Gb because fy! why not

fff

and proceeds to re download again those 20 Gb

which I bet at the end will delete half the game again just to show how good it is

I give up,

I’ve paused the verification when it was at around 99%. I’ve copy pasted the entire 119Gb folder to an external drive. Then I’ve resumed the verification. It deleted half of the games once again and proceeds to redownload 70 Gb of files.

I’ve copy pasted the files I’ve backed up to the installation folder. It verifies everything and once it finishes, it keeps deleting half of the game files.

not tanks for anyone from epic showing in the feedback thread, I’ve figured out that the trainwreck they call launcher has a log system.

looking into the logs I’ve found this error:

“Hash check failed”

The “Calculated SHA1” and the “Manifest SHA1” are different.

so it downloads the files then AFTER SOME TIME it fails to calculated the HASH correctly and then deletes the files because it thinks they are corrupted or not the real files.

But the problem is that I’ve played the game a few days THEN the launcher did some sort of random check while I was playing, it blocked the game (the inventory menu didn’t open correctly while I was playing, but the game did shutdown correctly)

So after I’ve verified the files the launcher decided that half the game files are not real. And then it got stuck in this yoyo where first it deletes 70 GB (from 115) then downloads those files then it founds out the other 50Gb are not ok anymore, deletes them, then once it downloads the 50Gb, the other 70Gbs are not ok anymore, and on and on for the past few days it did this.

Is just that I can’t accept a defeat and just move on and not care about this game. At least I have closure now, there is a bug inside the “Hash check” area.

I’ve did the steps in this help page

https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/epic-games-store-c5719341124379/error-codes-c5719359691291/is-bv04-build-verification-failed-due-to-mismatched-hash-a5720329677595

and there is no issue with the RAM. the file system is ntfs

Have you scanned your drive for errors? The only time I’ve experienced anything like this was when my harddrive started to die.

yes, no issues, I’ve also added the game to a different SSD drive.

but it doesn’t explain why half the game is fine, then once it downloads the other half, the first half becomes not ok and gets deleted. and then the other half is not ok anymore.

ok so let me explain this better

Game is 115Gb, we split this in two parts, part A is 50Gb and part B is 65Gb (not the exact precise numbers but just for me to explain what is going on. in reality the files are always the same and the size as you see in the screenshots)

It started by first checking all the game files (that were working) and then deleting part B.

Then it downloaded part B again.

Then it verified the files, got to 100%

Then it deleted part A. Yeap.

Downloaded part A again.

Then it verified the files, and you guess it, it deleted part B.

and then repeats.

So after two times it did this I’ve waited till it downloaded the entire 115 Gb files and I’ve stopped the verification before it got to 100%

I’ve copied all the files to an external drive.

Once it deleted the files as usual from the normal drive, I’ve place them back, nope, doesn’t want to recognize them. Still deletes them as usual.

I’ve then moved the files to a different drive in the computer and isntalled the game there. Nope, still the same thing.

This is obviously funny if you are not me that wasted several hundred Gb of bandwidth for this game. I should had bought the game on the rockstar launcher directly, GTAV works fine and downloads fine.

The blizzard launcher works, steam works, even uplay works. Not epic.

TLDR: launcher can’t resume downloads and it messes the hash calculations. Math is complex I assume for the devs. I know that myuself, except I’m not paid 500k a year.

So they have in my computer some key to encrypt the files/tag the files and when they download them they messed up the math so the math doesn’t match with what they have on the server.

still doesn’t work.

I’ve tried again, after deleting chunks of the game, downloading them again, deleting the parts it didn’t deleted, finally the epic launcher give up and show an error about failing to install and that files failed to match the hash.

Looking at the log file it didn’t even know what files have issues, it doesn’t list them.

Interestingly it didn’t delete any of the files at the end of this, it let all the 115 Gb in place.

But restarting the launcher and resuming the install, again deleted half the game.

I’ve verified the memory, verified the disk, I’ve even formatted the disk, not in quick mode but the full format, no change.

Steam, uplay, gog all the games from there work. not epic. epic managed to delete files from the unreal engine install. I’ve had to delete all the 4.7, 5.0, 5.1 installs because it doesn’t recognize them anymore. each day some other files.

And yes I’ve scanned the drive for viruses and malware.

There some bug in the epic launcher which makes this broken abomination thinks the files are not ok anymore.

And is not something that it never did before, it had the same issues with fortnite, deleting the game files.

they claimed they fixed the issue. no, they didn’t.

24th time is the charm. Finally it installed properly. I will not verify the game files ever again

This issue is still not solved. I’ve tried to download RDR 2 for 2 days, and almost 600 Gb has been downloaded, but it’s still downloading. R they going to solve this issue

I can’t help you with a solution. At some point it just worked. This is the only game where I’ve notice this issue. Maybe it happens with other games but if the game is a couple of Gb and it randomly deletes parts of the files already downloaded you may not notice.

I suspect aggressive idiotic and badly designed anti piracy check that obviously fails.
