Epic MegaJam! October 8-15th, 2015. THEME: STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

How are people doing?
My game is finally less of a complete broken mess, might even get to make art for it soon

Blender + Rigging… not my finest moment.
Luckily when you finally get it into UE4 it’s so easy to setup with Animation Blueprints and Blending.
Hopefully tomorrow a whole day of fleshing out combat mechanics :).

So I read there are 270 teams at the moment.

If spends 15 minutes on each game, that’s 270*15 or 4050 mins. That means his stream will be 67.5 hours long!

Hope you got lots of pizza ordered . That’s going to be one hell of a session.

Nice stuff!

Oh gawwwwd.

I wish you good luck !

First thing worth screenshotting is a milestone, right?

Team Overtime just passed that one. Gameplay? Not so much yet!

update on our gamejam i love UE4 me and my team have a great passion for it please watch the video

There was a point after the themes announcement I was quite humbled, it was probably not the intention but when I thought about Epics position in the industry and their bond with so many different ‘giants’ of the tech industry I realized we were really the literal of the figurative meaning. That we were standing on the shoulders of all the giants who came before us, not just in maths and science but technology, Epic and their technology is so pervasive it touches so many companies and they really lifted us up there with making Unreal Engine 4 free so Im going to take this opportunity to say Thank You Epic 'Mega’Games, all of you.

Its great to see peoples work, there are some very cool ideas going on , our team took a different approach and might not even get to explore the theme as deeply as originally discussed but it was a great topic and Epic really did well on this theme. Its hard to miss the Titan in the room and Epics own UT showcased recently a fantastic map (TitanPass) around the theme, much in the tone of GrendleKeep, Epics love for the larger things in life is apparent. Its also hard not to think about Nvidia and their graphics cards, not just the obvious but also the fact their architectures are named after famous physicists, the ‘giants’ if you will and it hints to Newton who has been quoted saying a version of the theme.

It has been said if there were an opposite saying to the theme it would be “reinventing the wheel” and I understand this mentality towards the figurative meaning, it was with that I really decided that the team would reuse assets and utilize our (lucky) position, elevating ourselves using the great work and vast amounts of knowledge that came before. While our entry might not be visibly representative of the theme, I can assure you that it has been considered deeply on a philosophical level

Heh, I’ve really been struggling a lot with the theme myself. I guess I’ve been overthinking it a lot and only ideas that I’ve accepted to fit the theme have been way too much work for the available time at hands (especially for one man team). So after 3.5 days, I think I’m finally going to start this. This also means it’s going to be like regular game jam for me as I’ve literally wasted half of the available time already

Don’t worry, I’m in the same boat…I actually had an idea and got quite far into it before realising that what I was attempting was not really possible (it was really, but required some hacky workarounds) so am starting from scratch today

Thanks for the support! Talking about fresh starts, it would be nice to see the overall kill count for all teams after the jam (referring to 's tip 4 ).

v= OUR TRAILER for the game jam i can probably submit it now we started the game jam 2 days ago… got a great team great communication leads to a productive team

Happy to report that I followed 's tips, scrapped my first idea, and all my effort thus far has been spent on our second idea. It’s going well; I’m not 100% confident it will be complete by the end of the jam, but at this point our gameplay idea inline with the theme is implemented and works very well.

P.S. It’s very easy to fake AI in a racing game!

You did not started this project in the time of the game jam… Take a look at your YT channel. You started around 2 weeks ago and you posted things about this before the official start too…
I think it’s unfair against other participants…

I completely agree.

Will be fun for sure. Just wondering, will you have some sort of playing schedule? I mean something at 15Ocktober at 21:00 Team1, 21:15 Team2… and so on? Otherwise it will be a long live stream, for you, and for us to watch.

double that

Going well this end. Almost finished the game but trying to fix as many issues as I can before submitting
