Hi everyone,
I’m encountering a persistent issue while trying to install Unreal Engine on my MacBook Pro M4 Max running macOS Sequoia 15.1.1. I’ve followed all the standard steps to install the Epic Games Launcher (downloaded EpicInstaller-17.2.0.dmg
from the official website), and everything seems fine until I try to open the app.
Here’s what happens:
- I open the
Epic Games Launcher.app
. - It asks for my system password to confirm file change rights.
- Immediately after, the launcher crashes with the error:
4.*“An Unreal process has crashed: UE4-EpicGamesLauncher.”**
“You do not have any debugging symbols required to display the callstack for this crash.”*
I’ve tried everything I could think of:
- Restarting the Mac.
- Deleting the app and reinstalling.
- Deleting all associated files (Preferences, Caches, etc.) and reinstalling.
- Installing via Terminal.
- Repeating all of the above after reboots.
The problem persists no matter what I do.
My Mac specs:
- MacBook Pro M4 Max
- 16 Cores (12 Performance + 4 Efficiency)
- 64 GB Memory
- Sequoia 15.1.1 (macOS)
Additional Observations:
- This happens immediately after confirming file permissions for the Launcher.
- Logs from the crash mention a failed self-update and missing files like
../../../Engine/Content/Slate/Icons/epic_logo.png
. It also reports errors likeSIGSEGV: invalid attempt to access memory
and mentionsTOptional
assertions failing.
What I’ve Googled:
I’ve found a few others with similar issues on different Mac models, but I haven’t found a working solution. Some recommend reinstalling Rosetta 2, repairing disk permissions, or modifying network/DNS settings. I’ve tried most of these with no luck.
Question:
- Is this a known issue for Apple Silicon M4 Max or Sequoia?
- Is there a workaround or a planned fix for this problem?
I’d greatly appreciate any help, as this has blocked my ability to start using Unreal Engine on my Mac.
Thanks in advance for your support!
