After a brief back-and-forth on Sunday, the Epic Launcher support person helped me out. It was very odd, for three days I could not visit the Epic Store, so I could not view my Games Library and could not play any of my games. This continued on Sunday for multiple crashes, at least 10 crashes in a row.
And the, suddenly… without me doing ANYTHING, not even a reboot of my PC… I tried the Epic Launcher yet again AND THIS TIME IT WORKED. I was shocked and stunned, but very pleasantly surprised.
So I emailed the Launcher support person one final time to tell them the good news, and I also asked them if they had done anything on their end to fix my problem? Their reply was short and simple, they told me all they had done is “refresh my account”, whatever that means… apparently that fixed my issue, so it was on EPIC’s end the entire time, that’s what this experience told me. I never could have fixed the issue myself, and I tried so many times over those 3 days, nothing worked… and no wonder. The Launcher was stuck on THEIR end, not on mine.
And finally… in case anyone is actually interested in getting to the bottom of this problem… the post above mine says something about deleting Ark Survival… well I have a sneaking suspicion, based on past events, that the problem with the launcher is with the massive updates that are constantly occurring with Ark Survival. I also have that game installed in my epic games library, and I do believe that is the root cause of all of this - Ark issues an update, and for some reason (Epic support, this is where you guys come in), the update crashes the Launcher, sometimes permanently. Sure enough… when I got back into the Epic Games Launcher, the very first thing it did? Yes of course, there was a huge update for Ark in my downloads queue that started immediately. I am convinced that is the primary suspect in all of this. I think that update download somehow “got stuck” and caused my Launcher to crash over and over.
I cannot express strongly enough how potentially damaging this experience is for a customer like myself. I was literally ready to delete the entire Epic software from my hard drive and never look back. I was ready to go to other sites and find the games I love to play, so I never get locked out of my games library by Epic again, even if I had to pay for the games to get them again. Thankfully, there was one wonderful support person on the Launcher team who took interest in my problem and resolved it for me. I feel like I should state their name for the record, so they get credit for the job they did, but I won’t do that, they’ll be able to see who it was internally if anyone cares. Give that person a raise, she saved Epic a customer!!! Thanks, and hope my words here help someone else who is having similar issues.
