Epic Games Launcher Bricks After Installing Aysnc Loading Screen to UE 5.6

Summary

When attempting to install Async Loading Screen to UE 5.6, the Epic Games Launcher crashes, and a UE 4 Crash Report appears with the below error. This continues to happen every time the Launcher is opened, making it impossible to keep the Epic Games Launcher open for more than about 10 seconds.

Steps to Reproduce

Click “Install to Engine” to UE 5.6 on Async Loading Screen in the library in the Epic Games Launcher.

Expected Result

The Epic Games Launcher will crash, and a UE 4 Crash Report appears.

Observed Result

I reproduce the issue with the same result, moreover the issue happens every single time I open the launcher now without me doing anything.

Platform

Epic Games Launcher / Unreal Engine 5.6

Operating System

Windows 11

Video

N/A

Exact same issue except for me just trying to install a marketplace asset put me into this endless loop where i can no longer install any versions of the editor. I’ve done a full Rivo Uninstall, wiped local app data deleted all registry entries and still the issue persists. Wondering if they pushed something out by changing 5.6.0 from preview to full that has bricked it somehow.

Okay i just tried the epic launcher on a brand new windows 11 laptop and it has the same issue. Im convinced now there must be something in the last update that has bricked it

This morning it seems they have resolved the issue. At least for me both win 10 and win 11 machines can now install the engine, didnt have to uninstall the launcher or anything. Worth trying again this morning to see if its also resolved for you.
