I realize that I am not the first person this has happened to. I upgraded my project from UE4 to UE5, and spent about 2 months working on it. Tried opening it yesterday, and my entire project has vanished. No, I didn’t delete it, and NO it’s nothing I did. This type of thing has never happened to me, in 20 years of working in VFX and Gaming. Honestly, how the hell did this happen. By reading the other messages on here, it appears clear that this MASSIVE problem is not limited to my experience. Good luck anyone using Unreal Engine. Maybe you can sprinkle some holy water on your computer, and perhaps have a monk recite some prayers right before you use UE5. Probably the most clunky program I have EVER used. Until your MAJOR bugs are fixed, your “super exciting” program needs to go back to the the shop for improvements, also firing several of your programmers might help.
OMG now even my older version isn’t opening correctly. THIS IS UTTERLY ATROCIOUS. I can’t express how sick I feel. You have made me lose months of work. I’m devastated.
If you are working on something important and you don’t have version control….you’re gonna have a bad time. Look into visual studio repos, you can store and version large unreal projects with git + git lfs for free.
