If you navigate to where the engine is installed on your computer are you able to launch the editor directly from the .exe file or do you still get the same crash?
I also ran the -cmd executable and got a slightly different crash report… if its relevant i can reproduce it.
I noticed this in my dxdiag report and wondered about it.
D3D9 Overlay: Not Supported
DXVA-HD: Not Supported
DDraw Status: Enabled
D3D Status: Enabled
AGP Status: Enabled
i have also tried factory defaults on my hardware with the same results.
it appears that “negative delta time” is whats mucking things up… i dont know what that is.
Could you post your verbose logs here as well to give us some extra information that could point to the cause of this crash. The following link explains how to collect the logs from the editor.
per your instructions I changed the logs to be verbose… this is my last log generated after launching UT4, going to the server browser, loging into a server, running around and shooting then exiting the game:link text
unfortunately the editor simply fails to launch and there is no error window or log window or nuttin. This is different than yesterday when it would fire up then choke. I do not have the log files from yesterday.
I do have a dump file from today: link text just rename this file to filename.dmp and you should be able to open it in studio (or whatever).
The game appears to work fine, i have played a couple matches and exited cleanly. I also got the 4.4.3 engine and it runs fine. I have downloaded a couple demos and added then as projects, when I try to open them it says the editor failed to launch.
I also rolled back my video driver, unOC’d my machine, shutdown all unneeded processes, reinstalled the launcher and game, stood on the tiptoes of my right foot while holding up my left arm… nothing seems to help. it does work fine on my i5 laptop.
UPDATE: I am completely starting over with a fresh install of win7pro. I will install the launcher when everything is setup and let you know what happens with verbose logs if needed. Thanks for you patience and attention.
Okay, with a fresh install of windows, I get just a little bit further into the editor… it started up, let me make a project and when I was about to add a blueprint variable it died again. here is the verbose log: link text
I will continue to try using it and just send normal crash reports from the crash window. Any ideas or experiences would be much appreciated. Does anyone else have an amd8350, radeon290, SSD combo with the editor working? or with the editor not working for that matter?
Are you able to run the engine if you are only running one of the two graphic cards? If you open the device manager you should be able to disable one and only run the other. I would suggest disabling the older card and checking for any updated drivers for the newer.
My system is a Gigabyte GA990fx-ud3 motherboard with an amd 8350 processor, 8Gb Radeon R9 gamer RAM, gigabyte amd r9 290x graphics card, and a Crucial SSD. Under win7pro.
Its obvious the problem is with the AMD processors (CPU or GPU), since the editor works fine on my HP laptop with its i5 processor and intel graphics.
Again, the error states “negative delta time”…
Are there any Direct X 9 calls in the engine(?), cuz my video card aint got no dx9 support.
I didn’t think my hardware is unusual, I am able to run Blender, Gimp, Open Office, GTKRadiant… BF3, BF4… urban terror 4.2 … i mean everything is working except UE4 and UE4Editor.
We are still working to understand what is causing this crash. Just for clarification, does the crash happen when launching the editor or when opening/working in a project? Could you get a copy of your project log files from the crash as well as from a working 4.4.3 project to compare?
just for clarification… I repeatedly get a BSOD (black screen of death?) while running the editor… with the negative delta time error… at some point while running the editor… sometimes i can launch it and start doing things, other times it simply crashes but eventually i get the negative delta time error.
I am able to launch the game and browse the servers and even join and play, sometimes I get the negative delta error, other times I can exit cleanly.
I will be happy to follow any/all procedures you would like to help resolve this issue as I believe it should be common to this hardware / OS.
At this time I am downloading a fresh copy of the 4.5.1 editor and will get 4.4.3 as soon as possible. I have only found 4.5 projects available for download so I will have to create a new 4.4.3 project and send you the results… is there a project available I can open for test purposes that will give results that will be useful to you? if not thats okay, I can make a quick test level for comparison purposes.
BTW… I know you guys are working hard at this stuff and I appreciate your efforts despite my issues.
I think I have found a solution that might lead to a fix:
I found a resolution I didn’t know I had that runs at 75hz on my tv (1280 x800?)
since I have forced that resolution on my desktop and as the default for the video card I have been unable to crash the editor… which runs just smooth as glass. I will let you know if I find a way to crash it from here.
I had been running at 1360 x 768 @ 60hz but with no refresh lock… maybe the refresh (vertical sync) is the solution at all resolutions. I found the setting in the AMD catalyst software for my video card. The editor is still running as I type this… time to dev. peace.
Just to confirm everything is working I downloaded the free vehicle game project from the marketplace and when I pressed play from inside the editor it ran flawlessly. I am very stoked and confident that the issue is resolved. if anyone else has neg delta time issues, force your card to lock to the refresh rate.
