EDIT: I have found the Source Documentation I was looking for, it was right infront of me. The sticky thread in this subforum. (i am tired atm)
I am unaware if there is any official or unofficial documentation for the engine code located anywhere, I would like to learn the ins and out the engine and the general flow of things to make working with the engine more smooth.
However, besides this, I am looking to recreate the general lighting appearance of Unreal 1/UT99 paired OpenGL and/or DX10 renderer, whilst using some less cumbersome graphical functions of UE4, and to top it off, making it an option.
Now I plan to achieve this simply by looking where different graphical settings are declared and working from there studying the engine portions and tweaking them for the new setup.
The overall goal of this lighting tweak is to basically present clean, less demanding, yet good looking and immersive visuals to the player. Just imagine the below image examples, with high-resolution textures, higher polycounts (I plan to be very cautious with using excessive Polys, only enough so that you dont notice sharp edges.), normal-mapping, low-intensity bloom and AO, Self-shading, and minimal post processes, using minimal use of hyper-realistic lighting features that UE4 provides.
The benefits of this would obviously be higher framerate, cleaner graphics, and allowing for more objects and polys to be rendered at once (I plan to have very object-filled enviroments).
In my eyes Unreal still looks ******* amazing graphically, when proper usage of its lighting and decent textures are made. (A good amount of user maps are garbage-looking, very simple geometry with low-res textures and zome-info set ambient lighting, BLEH)
I am not looking for exact instructions on how to do things, just asking for a place to start looking into the code and learning myself, because thats how I learn, is by tearing something apart and messing around with it till it works.
I apologize for tl;dr

TL;DR : Just looking for a way to make my own graphics settings and reduce hand-picked settings.
