I’m looking for a good solution for creating an electro magnet and how to capture another Pawn in the scene. The electro magnet is on a crane and can be moved by the user. When the magnet is turned on, it attracts the Pawn and pulls it into the magnet. When the magnet is turned off, the Pawn is released. The crane can be moved around and the captured Pawn will move with it. If the Pawn hits something like a wall, it can be “scraped off” of the magnet and separated, where it falls back down.
I have the controls for the crane worked out and the ability to detect the pawn when activated, so what I am trying to figure out next is what’s the best way to attract and hold onto the item while still letting it be manipulated by physics in the scene.
- Manually moving the item to a spot in world space via BP seems like it would ignore physics since it’s explicitly defining where to move the Pawn.
- Reparenting the object in the scene sounds like a possibility, but not sure how that would impact physics either.
Any suggestions on how to approach this would be welcome. Any questions I can answer to fill in the gaps I’m happy to do.
thanks,
- G
