We had been using Dynamic Color Mod, which was awesome by the way. It does appear to be affecting a few spawns and causing some issues. However we have a lot of tribes with a lot of Dinos and to be honest I love the colours we’ve managed to obtain.
Long story short, the Mod Author is no longer updating the Mod, and that is fair enough. We’d love to get hold of the Mod files to start updating it ourselves, or at very lease remove all of the Spawn overrides or at least weights to effectively leave current Dinos, but make all or most new spawns Vanilla to mitigate future issues and get us some ‘roos.
The way I understand it is that we are still getting vanilla spawns they are just outweighed by the mod.
It would be a bandage fix at best. Anyone have any experience doing this? And if anyone can contact the Author (we have reached out) to do this himself or release his Mod files that would be appreciated.
At this point, you need to weigh your options. This is the fun of using mods. If it goes outdated and the dev drops the ball, sadly, your at the mercy of the slow death.
I suggest, you kill the mod, and, spawn in some dinos to replace the ones players had. Really its the only option if the players complain. I’m really sad for those servers with like 30 mods just to be functional lol …
Yea I was afraid this might happen so we only went with 3 mods. I was hoping there was some way of making it keep the dino files but remove their spawning rate or something.
i personally would rip that thing open and do as i wish with it. there is no copyrights or intellectual property rights for steam workshop items. everything used is “public use” since they are built with free resource tables from Unreal. I’m sure its just a giant blueprint is all …
I have already had ppl open my map in editor and make changes … can i do anything about it ? Nope.
let me re-define that first line …
unless they MADE it themselves, like, graphics or something like that … then i wouldnt mess with it. But, that mods case, no, rip it open
I heard that workshop mods are packages in a way where you couldn’t easily edit them in the Unreal Editor. Is that not the case? Is there something that needs to be done to decompile the mod?
So is that what causes it to crash with an assertion failed every time I try to add the DCM dinos to the additional dino entries list?
Looks like I just need to figure out a way to return the spawners back to normal. so that the DCM dino files are there so we dont lose any current dinos, but have it that no more can spawn in. But any time anything from the mod gets involved it just crashes with Assertion Failed.
We keep trying to get hold of the Mod Maker but he appears to be ignoring us :S
Update:
I just had an idea, Could I make a mod that replaces the spawners to be the default ones and then load it higher in the mod order then the DCM mod. That way the mods will still load, but it will use the default spawners instead of the ones used in the DCM mod. If that is possible then I dont have to touch the DCM mod at all and won’t need the source mod files to solve my problem?
you could have wiped them out and respawned them all back in by now LOL i think your thinking too far into this … sadly, once that mod isnt working, your going to lose all those dinos. Rip the bandaid off man! RIP IT !!!
@Uzumi - Thats what i was told, people were making changes by opening the map in the editor … i give no one files! bwahaha!!
OK well I have sorted out the spawns in another mod, but now I have an issue of when I try to upload it. It just says file not found and there is nothing on the steam workshop, just an empty entry.
@AngryToilet - Yes quite possibly but Id rather try keep the nice colour dinos we have then lose everything, also it will be a big pain to respawn stuff in.
