Editor Stuck at 45%

For 18 hours.

Added NVME drives. As part of this process, I reinstalled Win10, which deleted the Epic Games Launcher and the Engines (4.24 and 4.26). The project is still there. Got a backup of the Content folder.

The Launcher and Engines are now installed on an NVME drive.The Launcher doesn’t see the project, so I click around for it. The editor launches and hangs at 45%. For 18 hours. Literally started this at 12 midnight. It’s now after 6 PM.

Prior to launch, I did try to “Upgrade” the project to 4.26 (was already 4.26). I thought this might reconnect the uproject file. I also tried to generate VS files.

Is there some config setting I need to fix? How can I get this project recognized and running again?

Edit to add specs: i7-9700KF 3.60GHz, 64G RAM, RTX 2060

It should be in your project’s directory under:

The logs may have some useful information on what is causing the editor to not load.

So, I did check the 18-Hour log and the last line was this (or something similar):

Before the OP, I did try to launch again, but gave up after about 5 minutes. That’s actually the log posted above. Looking at this new log, I discovered the editor got a bit further:

One thing to note, the local data cache path is still [C:USERPATH]/AppData/Local/UnrealEngine/Common/DerivedDataCache

However, subsequent attempts continue to stall at compiling the WGM.

I have two WorldGridMaterial files in Saved/Cooked/WindowsNoEditor/Engine/Content/EngineMaterials

WorldGridMaterial.uasset
WorldGridMaterial.uexp

Also one in the SoulCity Pack.

Removing them doesn’t stop the compiling. So I’m just going to try again for 24 hours max to see what happens.

The moderators keep removing any post with Code Sample.

Compilation is generally stuck on WorldGridMaterial. I’m just going to let it run.

Gave it another go. Took maybe two hours. No clear reason why.

Maybe because:

  1. I plugged everything except the power cable into another computer. So that machine may have gone idle? This has worked before, however.
  2. The CrashReportClientEditor shows up as a process in Task Manager. The actual CRC is not visible. This has been been happening for the last couple of UE4 versions. Hasn’t been a problem though.
  3. The Boot Cache and the Shader Compiler Working Directory cache are still in the AppData/Local directory on the C drive. Maybe there’s an issue writing across drives?

Now I’m having issues with other projects compiling Materials. “The Art of Combat” project from the Marketplace is stuck compiling 320 shaders. Another project is stuck trying to compile 42 shaders.
