I compiled UE from the current github 4.13 branch. The editor works fine and is fun to use. While the performance in general is okay every now an then it gets really bad.
Triggered by rather simple things as moving a node in a BP could lead to system freezes where only my mouse pointer remains movable. Everything else – the whole graphical system (sound is still present) – locks up for some seconds to several minutes.
I am using Gnome 3.20.3 on a Ubuntu 16.04.1 system with a MSI GTX 1060 with current drivers (370.28), an i5-4690s processor and 16 gigs of ram.
The log doesn’t show anything special when this happens. How can I provide any data for you or what aspects should I have a look onto?
I compiled earlier releases with the same result. I was able to go through the TwinShooter tutorial, and the game runs fine. But these editor freezes were annoying.
Thanks for your awesome product
Hey haraldkrischner-
I have not noticed editor freezes as you described when working in the Linux editor, are you still getting these freezes on your end? If so please provide the actions taken from opening the project to when it freezes. Additionally, what is the gigahertz output of your processor? A processor with 2.5GHz or higher is recommended for using the editor, if yours is below this it could be a cause of the slowness/freezes when the editor is taking time to complete a process.
Hey haraldkrischner-
We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will follow up.

I have the same problem. Renders the editor almost unusable. Here are my system specs
Dell XPS 7590 | 9th gen i7 | 16 GB Ram | Nvidia GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5
I’m using Pop_OS! 19.10
I’m running a very similar set up to @dms449. It appears to be related to running the editor under Vulkan. Starting the editor with the -opengl4 flag resolved the periodic freezing issue for me.
