I have no idea what’s happening. I was finishing a level with large terrain, some foliage and used the smooth tool quite a bit. As I hit the play button, the editor vanished. Them the map wouldn’t open and the editor crashes even on right click.
I looked around, I tried everything, including copying the umap to a new one, moving the umap to another project and try opening it there, no success.
You must have a specialised tool to recover a umap? It’s a binary file, it’s a black box, we can’t do anything but see our work vanish.
I spent a fair bit of time on this, so I’m quite #$%&^*.
Here is my umap, let me know the way to recover it.

Hello ,
Try making a copy of your project, then within the copy, deleting the Saved, Intermediate, and Config folder to see if the allows you to re-open your project.
I just attempted to open your .Umap and was unable to do so without a crash. If you cannot work around the issue I can see about entering a bug for this crash as well.
Let me know if you need additional assistance.
Cheers,
Hi Andrew, thanks for the response.
I was indeed asking if you could either recover my level or raise a bug. This shouldn’t happen. That level is unusable now and there is no way to open it. A level should always open, to some degree, even if something is corrupted in it.
Unfortunately, since this crash is project and map specific, we need to be able to reproduce the issue in a blank project with steps. Providing us with the .umap in order to get the crash is helpful when trying to discover the error, but we need a way to get this same crash to occur in a blank project.
Corrupted maps like this can sometimes be difficult to recover, and we don’t have a specific tool to recover corrupted maps. Have you attempted to see if there are any backup saves in your project’s directory folder that you can load an earlier version of and test?
Let me know if you have further questions.
Thank you,
