Asset Shelf is an editor workflow plugin for Unreal Engine that gives you a clean, visual place to keep your most-used project assets close at hand.
Instead of searching the Content Browser again and again for the same Blueprints, materials, folders, maps, meshes, textures, or widgets, you can pin them to a personal shelf and access them quickly from a dockable editor window.
It is designed for solo developers, level designers, environment artists, marketplace creators, tutorial makers, and anyone working in large Unreal projects where the Content Browser becomes harder to manage over time.
Asset Shelf focuses on one simple idea:
Keep your important assets visible, organized, and easy to drag back into your workflow.
You can drag assets from the Content Browser or Content Drawer into the main Asset Shelf dashboard, organize them into shelf entries, and use the side shelf layout with large thumbnails for quick visual access while working in the editor.
The plugin is editor-only and does not add any runtime gameplay code to your project.
Key Features
Personal Asset ShelfPin frequently used assets into a dedicated shelf so you do not need to search for them every time.
Useful for:
Blueprints
Static Meshes
Materials
Textures
Maps
Folders
UI assets
Frequently used project assets
Asset Shelf opens as a normal Unreal Editor tab and can be docked wherever you prefer.
You can keep it beside the viewport, next to the Content Browser, or as part of your own editor layout.
Visual Thumbnail CardsPinned assets are shown as clean visual cards with large thumbnails, making it easier to recognize assets quickly.
This is especially useful for environment assets, props, materials, characters, UI textures, widgets, and marketplace content.
Side Shelf WorkflowAsset Shelf includes a side shelf layout intended for fast access while building levels or working in the editor.
The side shelf uses large thumbnails so assets are easy to identify at a glance.
Drag and Drop SupportAsset Shelf supports practical drag-and-drop workflows:
Drag assets from the Content Browser into Asset Shelf
Drag assets from the Content Drawer into Asset Shelf
Drag assets from the shelf into the level when supported by Unreal
Keep frequently used assets ready without repeatedly reopening or searching folders
Asset Shelf is designed to work with Unreal's Content Drawer workflow.
You can drag assets from the drawer into the shelf and continue adding items without constantly fighting the editor layout.
Quick Asset AccessPinned entries can be used to quickly locate, open, browse to, or reuse common assets during development.
This helps reduce repetitive searching and keeps your workspace cleaner.
Lightweight Editor ToolAsset Shelf is intentionally simple and focused.
It does not try to replace the Content Browser. It gives you a faster personal shortcut layer on top of your normal Unreal workflow.
Why Use Asset Shelf?Unreal projects grow fast.
After a while, the assets you need every day are spread across many folders, plugins, marketplace packs, prototypes, and test areas.
Asset Shelf helps with that by giving you a small, visual, personal workspace for the assets you keep coming back to.
It is useful when:
You constantly search for the same assets
You work with large marketplace packs
You build levels with repeated props or materials
You want a dockable visual favorites bar
You want faster access to maps, Blueprints, folders, materials, and common assets
You prefer visual thumbnails over remembering exact asset names
Keep modular pieces, props, lights, decals, materials, and environment assets ready while building a level.
Environment ArtPin your current working set of meshes, materials, trims, textures, and folders.
Blueprint WorkKeep important Blueprint classes, managers, widgets, actors, and data assets easy to access.
Marketplace Asset WorkOrganize assets you are preparing, testing, or frequently checking during marketplace production.
Tutorial and Content CreationKeep demo assets and example Blueprints ready while recording or building tutorial scenes.
Beginner-Friendly WorkflowNew Unreal users can avoid digging through large folders and keep important project assets visible.
