E57 Import and Processing errors

Hi guys,

I’m having quite a bit of issues importing and processing E57 files. I’m creating meshes from scans and photos. Sometimes, when I import scans from a BLK360 which were converted to E57 by Cyclone, RC crashes. Ive tried exporting e57s the BLK360 from Recap, and I can get those to import, but I am sometimes missing .lsp files (there should be 6?). When I reconstruct, I get blocks of the mesh just missing. This happens inconsistently. Ive used PTX files, and those work fine, but I need to use E57.

Are there going to be fixes in the next release? Im processing a large project and this is currently a barrier.

Thanks!

Will

Hello William,

can you please check if your problem is not related to this one?

Also please make sure that your point cloud is exported as ordered. The requirement for successful import to RC is that when you create an imaginary ray from the scanner position it does not intersect several surfaces (the illustration is in the picture below)

Hi Zuzana,

I’ve taken a look at the clouds in Cloud Compare, and I think they are ordered, eg, none of the clouds exhibit un-ordered points as you show in the example image. I can import the clouds into RC and align, but when I reconstruct I get blocks of data missing in the mesh. There are points there, but no mesh. Ive attached a photo.

I don’t get this error when I use PTX files. The PTX files were generated from a Leica C10 (converted directly from raw to ptx, no registration or cleaning). The E57 are from a BLK360, converted in cyclone (blk raw to e57, no registration).

Ive highlighted the missing parts of the mesh in red. Any ideas?

I should also add that when RC creates the lsp files, its only creating 3.
