Duplicates when importing .fbx?

I’ve been working on a large project in Autodesk Inventor that I want to bring into UE4, but I’m facing a problem that I cant seem to solve.

My workflow goes like Inventor Assembly -> import into 3ds Max -> export .fbx -> import .fbx in UE4

Although this Inventor Assembly is made up of only ~20 unique parts, it saves all 400 pieces of the assembly (many parts are duplicated) as unique assets in UE4.

I have tried ‘replace references’, but it simply deletes everything i try to replace and consolidate.

Would you happen to know how to complete this workflow while only saving unique inventor parts as unreal assets in the end?
