I found the problem. In order to find it i just worked with a usage of draw text that worked, and got closer and closer to my implementation until it broke. I was adding the widget in runtime, rather than in the designer, so it was a little harder to see all the settings, however i needed to set the horizontal and vertical alignment of the widget slot to fill. Not sure why these nodes work differently in this respect, but they do.
