Hi guys,I’m about to learn how to do my animations inside 3ds (since I’ve always used it for modeling) to later be used inside UE4, but since for now I know very little about animation,I’m also considering that maybe I could end up learning Maya and how to do the same work inside it if there was some solid reasons to do so.
So can someone tell me the advantadges and disadvantages of doing this kind on work in 3ds max instead of maya?
As a Maya user I find the workflow between UE4 and Maya very compatible. That said, you should not HAVE to learn Maya if you are already comfortable with 3DS Max. While I personally don’t use Max, there are many people here who do and I have not heard of any significant obstacles with the FBX file/workflow from that program. -In short, in your case I’d stick with Max and maybe explore Maya down the road.
I see,thanks for your feedback
I’ll avoid opening a new topic and I’ll ask directly here, since should be on topic: Can you guys suggest me some online animation tutorial for 3d smax (paid or free)?
Like I followed already the tutorial for setting up a character in the documentation, and in that tutorial a BS 2D is used to blend between for example 4 different walking animation (Front, left, right, back) and I also found a tutorial for animating a forward walk cylcle in 3ds max,but I would guess that the other walks are generated using that as a base, instead of having to do from scratch each one of the walk.
So I would like for example to see a tutorial that shows how all the 4 variation for a given animation are made
