Does unreal engine 4 have an online or offline installer?

So I was wondering if unreal 4 is same as udk with an offline installer or do I have to be online in order to install, that would cost me an arm and a leg.

I live out on the dark continent (Africa) and the Internet here is extremely expensive and slow on pc, ($200+ usd to download 8gb of data), but it’s fair on mobile, especially 3g tablet are great. ($5 and I can download as much as I want for a week at a fair speed). And no I can’t teather internet to my pc, if anyone wanted to suggest that.

Unfortunately it is online - this is causing me great grief as well. But $200 tho! Wow

Well **** that sucks, any idea what size it is?

Engine and tools are about 7gb. Content examples are around 3gb. Source is about 100mb, but I suspect the source alone isn’t enough to compile, and obviously doesn’t include all the convenient content.

Well this is gonna be extremely difficult to get, I’d honestly. Have 0 troubles with a direct download. Anyone think I could possibly get 1 if I contacted epic?

the place i live downloading 7 GB without internet download manager is impossible !!! common why there is no offline installer like unreal 3?

Don’t you have a relative overseas to help with that?

you can actually install it “offline”, you download the source code from github, with the binary files, wich is less than 2 gb, you can then just go and compile the engine in your pc, saving a lot of bandwith. BUT, you still need to download the samples with the launcher, so no samples or marketplace in your pc.

actually i’ve shocked with the size. at the source installer just 56MB i think that was small and very happy, but that all change after Fire Country Attacking. Whaaaaattt the actual size is 3GB, hahahahhaahaa . . . but thanks for this engine. i like free,

Can you provide a tutorial for compiling the source?
And is it possible to download the samples separately?

I’m very disappointed at Epic for not providing the offline option.
I have to travel 20km on a very un-reliable train service to use a computer at my university. There is no way on earth I would get an internet connection to my home.

I cannot believe the shear lack of insight Epic has neglected with this decision.

Not everyone lives in an area with a 10000 GB/s connection, and even America has started introducing data caps.
I really can’t believe they have done this.

The computer at my university is a Linux machine and I can only obtain the installer by downloading an offline .exe and transferring it by USB to my home computer.

his is a deal breaker for me, and I will now be forced to move to Unity 5.

I am very disappointed!

I wish Unreal can provide 2nd type installer, which is offline, sans source code dan all those huge pdbs. Those pdbs are not needed for tester (or user), they are only for someone who want to browse the source code while running (which happen to be minority of us). What majority of people want is to simply run the editor, create world, compile our c++ code and whenever it crashed, we are able to send the crash information to epic server.

So, I’ve done some tests on my server now.
I’ve downloaded the latest release from GitHub and executed the setup.bat resulting in a 10,5 GB big folder, ready to compile the engine.

Using the latest WinRAR version, compressing the folder (RAR5 archive, dir. size 512 MB, maximum compression, running on Xeon E3-1231 v3, 3.4GB RAM usage, took 27 minutes) results in a 3,2GB big rar archive which saves already a lot of traffic.

Yeah, a second offline installer would be nice, even more when you need to install to say 8 PC wihotut good internet connection… that plainly sucks (say 2 to 3 day per computer… so… start making hte numbers).

Would it not be possible to have a friend download all of the files required, plant them onto a USB drive, then use that? That should allow for installing it on multiple computers, whilst only having to actually download it once, as well.

Yes it should be possible, I’m not sure about recent versions but I remember using 4.6 on a new computer, I’m sure I didn’t download it to new pc so I must have copied it.

I can feel you guys as of now, im far at home just to download the engine… and it kinda frustrates me… the only solution to this problem is if only someone that has a full working system files within its corresponding path will be too kind to upload on the internet for all of us to download directly and just save it to our hard drives… that would be such a relief on our part…

I was thinking to try out. I come from Unity3D.
My problem is, I have a LTE multi-connection with my mobile telephone, 6GB, after that, it becomes to EDGE (mono-connection). The point is, EDGE in this area is like nothing (download failure).

I would appreciate to consider an offline download.

Thank you.

that is correct, i have a 1mb download internet connection and sometimes i spent 3 or 4 days downloading the engine, also sometimes i paused the download, exit the launcher and when i open the launcher again to resume the download, the launcher simple start from 0 again.

i know we need to use the launcher for the license of the engine and the others marketplace products, but sometimes, without a very fast internet connection, the launcher can provide a lot of headaches.

I know this is pretty late, proberbly far too late, but you could try setting up a hotspot form your telephone!

My problem is that the computer I use to access the internet… blocks me from changing the program files. I’m not a moderator on it so I don’t have permissions to change that stuff, so the setup files can’t fully run with internet access. On my offline computer I do have admin access, though, so I would be able to run it there. Will this impede my installing/using the engine in any way? Do I need the thing to fully run online, or can I copy the files and run it on my offline, moderator access computer? Idk I’ve just been trying to run this stuff for weeks now
