does my character gets extra boost in speed if he jump while runnning/sprinting? or is it the same as if he's running on the ground?

If my character jumps while running, does he get the same speed midair- as if he was running on the ground? or does he get a little boost? - does the same thing applies if he’s sprinting?

Hey @GLIBI_DIDOP!

If we are talking in general, momentum is maintained when you jump for the most part depending on how you jump and the angle you are propelling your jump and what forces are acting against you (gravity, wind resistance, etc).

For example, a simple Mario style jump would not be propelled forward much, if at all, as all of the power is pushing the character up. However, a forward leap (like to a roll a la soulslike for example) pushes all the force that would have been initially underneath you further behind.

Please keep in mind that this is a crude explanation and there is a lot more physics than I can personally explain, and can be a research topic on its own but definitely has answers if you are looking for more realism.

Otherwise, stick with what feels good to play, rather than what is the most realistic, as that will always yield the best results for gameplay in general.

I hope the above information helps lead you to the right destination or where you need to look next!
