Hello. According to the doc and tutorials on YouTube, you need Houdini 18.5.532 to create a city. I have been in contact with SideFX for 2 days. I received the version, but according to SideFX there is no longer any way to activate a license for it and they recommend a version from 20.5. Does that work just as well or is 18.5.532 actually the deciding factor?
same Question here. Did you get the answer?
Hi @Golli1407 @Dhamend,
While I don’t know the exact differences between the two versions, I have to imagine they’re pretty compatible. Worst case scenario, there may be one or two nodes that have since been depreciated in newer Houdini versions, so you will need to replace them and troubleshoot a little. If you do use the newer version and encounter any of these issues, feel free to post them here and tag me and I can help you out.
I finally found the solution yes houdini newer version is also compatible with City Sample files.
Gama has a very good series of YouTube videos on this subject. I spoke to him today and he advised that the main issue is that 18.5.532 uses Python 2 and all the newest versions of Houdini use Python 3, which will create some problems unless you convert the Python accordingly. However, SideFX still allows you to download and activate a couple of the versions of 19 that use Python 2 along with the same version of the Engine plug-in. I was able to download and install and activate Houdini 19.0.657 and Engine Plug-IN 19.0.657 using the license administrator. Gama says this combination will work for sure.
