Does Google VR plugin work with non-Daydream compatible phones?

Engine issue number UE-65983 reports Google VR crash on UE4.21, I have the same problem and it’s been marked as “Cannot Reproduce”. My theory: Epic can find the problem because they’re testing on high end phones. Has anyone gotten Google VR + 4.21 or 4.22 to work on a Cardboard compatible phone?

Exactly, build works on my MotoZ but crashes on older HTC a9s and lots of other devices. Maybe they try to force people to get a newer hardware, but atm it just forcing me to quit making my game.
