I would like to create a map for Fortnite using assets I made for a game I’m developing. Will Epic gain rights over those assets once you publish the map, or would I still be able to use them in the game I’m developing?
I recall Epic Games mentioning at GDC that the creators will have all rights to their own Assets, ofcourse that means you will still own your assets’ IP rights.
If you need a video of them mentioning it, it should be mentioned at around the end of the Fortnite Creative 2.0 section of their talk! Goodluck!
From what I remember there was EULA when launching UEFN saying that Epic gains rights to use your assets (but you don’t lose them). Just don’t be surprised if in the future all content will be fed to AI
Epic will not use, nor license third parties to
use, your UEFN Content (a) in datasets utilized by Generative AI Programs (as defined below in Section 8.9), (b)
in the development of Generative AI Programs, or (c) as training inputs to Generative AI Programs.
There are few sections about rights, for ex:
5.4. Your UEFN Content is Yours. Apart from the limited license you grant Epic above and Epic’s rights in its
products and services (including without limitation Fortnite and UEFN) we have no rights under these Terms
from you or your licensors in any UEFN Content you submit. The rights you grant to Epic herein is not an
ownership right, but a license to the UEFN Content you own (“Digital Rights”). You have the right to use the
Content you own that you have developed in UEFN in any of your current and future works, including works
outside of UEFN, Unreal Engine, and Epic’s other services; provided that you do not use or infringe any of Epic’s
content or trademarks, or third-party content obtained through UEFN that you aren’t licensed to use in those
works.
