Does anyone know anything about the upcoming "Next Generation Terrain"?

This topic has been on the roadmap for a few months now. I couldn’t find anything else on the internet. Does anyone know if this “next-gen” solution will finally allow for in-game landscape modification / sculpting / importing heightmaps?

I’ve been checking back on this fairly often and looking for more information, sadly still nothing other than what is on the card.

Nothing epic does is ever going to work.
This is a proven fact with tons of things they add to the engine that work only partially, not at all, or just cause issues.

As such, make your own system/tools so you can be sure things work, and perform like you expect.

Landscape manipulation done right is not impossible. And it doesn’t have to be horrible like what epic has to offer… (or in this case, cannot even begin to offer)

lel i mean… unreal engine works right? right?

There´s a plugin from a company called errant photon. It works, but, very limited. But I am now able to create terrain stamps and sculpt terrain in runtime and in a packaged game. It is VERY slow I had to modify it extensively to make it usable, but it is a great job in fact because unreal landscape was not meant to be modified this way in runtime.

This sounds promising if they can implement it well of course. Any idea if it does destructible well? I see it’s quite an old post there, I love that link to the ideas for future implementation, some gems there.

Also Paulo, that sounds immense too. Well done and good luck with that. Especially if you can improve the design, perhaps let it queue a few actions to be done in its own time. IDK but that sounds exciting.

“Finally, an alternative to the ancient Landscape system in UE, it lets you create overhangs, use mesh and texture projection stamps at different angles and directions, perform mesh booleans, and much, much more!”, said Dylan.”

There’s a vid, make sure u don’t have a blocker, othewise i only get the video around the new DOF (which IS good).
