Does an eGPU greatly improve MacBook Pro performance?

I use a 2019 MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 with 64GB, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB & Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
I only create linear video content in UE4 and have had reasonable success so far. I was wondering if an external graphics card, like a sonnet breakaway box with an Radeon™ RX 6800 XT or the Blackmagic eGPU for example, would make a big difference in performance?
There is little mentioned about Mac specs, so I’m finding it difficult to get a good idea of the best way to go.

The laptop seems to cope reasonably well, but it seems to be working really hard all the time, so I was trying to work out if an external unit will take some of the the workload and maybe even improve performance. I’m not sure what other laptop would be much better. I use Macs exclusively, so I don’t know if the newer M1’s would be much better. Open to ideas though
