Does Alembic fur/hair work in VR?

If not, is there any way to turn my alembic fur into polygons and rely on nanite to generate the “fur” ? then view it in VR ?

or how about this ?

we render the fur/alembic file from a single camera attached to the HMD…
and it pre-renders the alembic file as an image to the screen like normal… but we use that image as an overlay for each eye in VR, so its like AR fur over top of the mesh??
maybe leaving 8bits for an alpha channel in the HMD to support the overlayed image…
