Using 5.2.1 and some of my stuff hasn’t updated from 5.1 can i just pop them 5.1 version into 5.2.1 with no conflicts? Should they auto convert over to the new version if they have the 5.1, i assume 5.1 isn’t that far off 5.2.1 same framework unlike 4 to 5 which is a complete change in mannequin skeletons.
You should be ok - if you’re converting a 5.1 project, just convert a copy rather than the original, otherwise just add to the 5.2 project…
If you’re using any plugins, they will need to be updated to 5.2
These are just add too project characters from 5.1 that haven’t updated, since they are not a stand alone project when i add too project it should just update as needed as it’s importing the file from the copied location of where the main file is kept which is the library contents in the Epic client, base file shouldn’t be harmed you can delete chached files they are only there to save you redownloading the file again if you duplicate or create a new project and it requires the files again, Unreal will source that file from the library file & redownload it if necessary if its not in cache.
Sometimes i clear that cache file when i’m using a-lot of content too save space because they start filling your HD when you already have them in project and don’t require adding too more projects etc etc,
understood - yes that should be fine. I keep running out of HD space so clear that cache all the time!
I also turn off windows Hibernation file in command line as admin because it takes up huge space if you have multiple drives over 2 TB each, Windows hibirnation will chew up space on each HD plus take up more on the main drive so switch it off if you not setting the computer to sleeping anytime, apparently sending your PC too sleep costs alot of HD space for some reason.
One more thing i forgot too mention for the 5.1 content which is am i better off just creating a 5.1 project then converting it to 5.2.1 or can i just throw it in 5.2.1 as a 5.1 will it auto convert when i open the editor or the character within the editor?
I tested it out just add a character that was for 5.1, since the project accepts 5.1 &5.2.1 when i added the character as 5.1 from the menu it just loaded as normal in an overview map ready to use with no conflicts i seen so i assume it’s safe to do this for basic things like characters and static meshes with no specific working blueprints, a template to drive vehicles in 3rd person would not auto convert this way but a simple character that uses the previous version is completely fine just so people know…
