I am going to be buying a new video card soon so that I can get better performance with UE4.This is the video card I want to buy; video card. My question though is, is it my video card that needs upgrading? my current video card is an AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB. My biggest problem with UE4 is that it crashes when I am importing a mesh and its materials(all at once) and sometimes when I am compiling shaders for a material.
These are my current PC specs:
AMD FX-6100 6-core CPU 3.3Ghz
Corsair CX600W Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance 8GB RAM
Corsair H60 closed-loop liquid cooling (not entirely if its the H60)
I’m running on version 4.0.2, the one that is installed from the client. How do I submit a crash report? I’ve submitted the one that pops up when the editor crashes.
No, I don’t think it is your card that would be causing the crash (unless it is a bad driver). Are you running from source? Can you try submitting a crash log for what you are seeing?
Is that the only version you have available? If not, try installing a later version. If so, I’m not sure what you’ll be able to do; I just know that the GPU is very unlikely to be the culprit, unless you are having drivers issues, or power issues (power output declines over time).
I got nearly the same GPU (video card), so it won’t be the problem unless something is broke soft-/hardware sided.
If this crash only accures with the editor, i guess it’s an editor issue.
May i ask you if the editor just freezes or really crashs? Because a freeze would be totaly normal. The PC needs a lot of power to recalculate shaders etc.
It is the only version I have but I can try getting 4.5 and see if that works. I’m not sure if it’s drivers but it very well might be. I have AMD 14.9 drives and have been having worse performance so I’ll try downgrading to 14.4(only other version installer I have).
It might be software or the editor. For example when import a static mesh from blender and choose to import the textured and materials along with it, it instantly crashes and asks me to submit a crash report. Another instance was that I was compiling a material when all of a sudden my entire computer turned off.
SM4.0 GPU (DX10, OpenGL 3.0) is absolute minimum to run UE4 the rest is matter how fast youy will run and you need SM5.0 (DX11, OpenGL 4.0) to have all visual effects avavable
So I’ve download a new version (4.5) and I dont get the crash from importing a fbx asset with its material and texture. So far so good, but I haven’t actually used it enough to be 100% sure. I also download AMD 14.9 beta drivers and its working well so far, so I don’t think i’ll be getting a new videocard. So instead, I spent the money on a UE4 subscription and got shadow of mordor for 33% off!
