Distance Field AO in 4.5

I watched the live stream today and they mentioned the many improvements to DFAO. I am wondering if it still has the limitation where you can’t scale a mesh non uniformly? They didn’t mention it, but I am still wondering since this seems to be the deal breaker for so many projects. Even the effects cave demo has rock meshes scaled to all sorts of weird sizes to make the walls and ceiling.

Yes it still has that limitation. It might be solveable with more memory, by storing distance along each axis instead of a single distance, but we haven’t gotten to it yet. However, it no longer requires closed meshes to generate a valid distance field. Thanks for your feedback

ok, thank you for getting back. I think including the option to store distance along each axis would help many people out. I am very glad that the closed mesh limit has been solved. Now I can use it on a couple project that couldn’t before!
