Disk for Unreal Engine 5.
What suitable SSD disk should I buy for it?
Will 2TB be enough? I would like it to be cheaper and compatible with Windows 10 and an Acer laptop. Help me because I ran out of disk space because I downloaded objects from FAB
It would be best if it was on external USB, there is no option to do it on internal.
Thanks for the answers
1TB should be enough for UE5, and you’ll have space left for at least one or two projects. But the Unreal guide says that a typical system has 2TB. I think you’d have more than enough, and you could upgrade it later if you don’t want to spend too much right now. Of course, the size of the projects will depend on the content. UE5 needs approximately 115 GB.
You could buy an external SSD, but keep in mind that SSDs are already expensive, and being external will make it even more costly.
What exact Acer model do you have? It might have space to ad an M2, which would be cheaper than an external SSD.
Personally, I’ve always used Western Digital and Kingston. They are good products, fairly affordable, and I’ve never had any issues with them.
I hope I helped!
Let me know how it went!
Get 2TB.
Not sure 1TB is even enough for UE4 anymore tbh. A lot comes down to the types of projects you’re specifically working on. For example, Megascans-class electric-dreams ultra-realism tends to eat storage. Plus in general, here’s why you need as much as possible…
The OS takes up a bunch, 100GB at least. Other apps at least the same or more. Pagefile can easily run over 100GB at times. DDC can also take 100GB easily. Sample marketplace packs will eat the rest (500GB minimum but often more than 1TB)… You need lots of packs installed while you’re busy developing in the middle of projects. Later you can migrate projects and save some storage space maybe.
Then there’s the thorny issue of different engine versions. All of them need their own unique space (allow for extra DDC too). So if you have 3/4 engine versions + plugins plus versioned marketplace assets, this will eat storage fast. So be comfortable, get at least 2TB.
You can find external-storage pretty cheaply online especially HDD. 20TB often costs 100-200 USD / EUR or less in lots of places.
There are auctions in Poland so I will choose Kingston
I use Unreal Engine 5. In addition, the games I make like Carmageddon Reincarnation and 20 maps, it will take a lot. So I will choose 2TB, we still have the standard one
This is my laptop
Computer name, domain and workgroup settings
And there you have my model name, and USB 3.0
May God watch over you, for helping
Last question, because no one answered me. How do I connect textures perfectly? I know someone wrote to me to look on the internet, but I can’t find it, I’m from Poland, and I don’t understand a bit. That’s why I use google translator ;/
I’ve already got the disk Kingston, I’ll work on the game.
When I make the first map, I’ll upload it to YouTube and so on
But don’t exaggerate.disk is fast :).
Hey @kkkkrthwthth
I’m glad to hear that!!
Good luck with your map, and I look forward to the video!!!
While adding snow the graphics card crashed D3D I don’t know what to do please I’m devastated
Enabling D12 and solve problems
I added snow to the map, but it stutters terribly, what can I do? I have it set to DX12 ;/.
After removing the snow, everything went back to normal, but how to do it without jamming?
I managed it, the bigger the particle value, the more load it puts on the GPU

I think much much better.
I can do everything without snowing, model textures.
And here is my result after 5 days of learning
