I don’t have a remote clue what to do about a specific bug that I’ve got in UnReal Engine 4-26-2, where my project’s seemingly crashed, saying on opening, it “cannot find loaded map” and leaving me with a blank, lightless, empty map, everything gone. Never seen it before. Can someone help? Not a nice way to end the month.
Sounds like it got corrupted. However, your project should have created some backup files. Go into your project folder, there is a folder called “Saved”, and within that is an “Autosaved” folder, which should contain some backups of your level ( *.umap ).
You can try to rename your damaged level, then copy one of those backup levels into your actual level folder, where the damaged original level file was, and rename that to your original file name, then try to reload or open it again.
Is there a way to see different “levels” and traverse between them?
Ok, you don´t even need to rename anything. Just go into your main folder for your levels, or anwhere within your project, create a new folder for your autosaved levels, then go into your autosaved folder and copy your backup levels from there into your newly created folder.
Then open your project and you will see your new folder with your autosaved levels displayed. At first they have not that attachment displayed, and if you doubleclick them, they create a copy, instead of opening them. But after that, they are displayed with their full names alongside that copy, and if you then click one of those autosaved levels again, it will open them, and you can switch between all of them.
I am going to try the methods you’ve mentioned, I’ll get back to you sometime with what has happened.
I’ve come back from a trip, finally have time to do this - I tried your second method, I cannot find any levels, so I’m certain I’ve not accidentally made another level. On your first method, I’m not certain what I can do once I’ve found these *.umap files? Hate to be a noob, but I’ve simply never had to face these problems in UnReal before.
