I love the improvement to Discovery, it’s headed to the right direction. Some extra thoughts:
- Epic Picks >> Homebar for the first 3 days it gets featured
- If that period is interrupted by another brand deal or map, re-feature it at a later date
- Discovery and browse to show more games, almost 7 times more, kinda like Netflix where you choose a genre and it keeps scrolling endlessly
- (critical) Every month or 3 months one game should be picked as the Discovery highlight, when that happens, it gets a full row by itself, like on the app store. This game has to raise the bar in quality, and it has to be a unique idea (copying games from other platforms should not be rewarded, nor minimal effort that relies on FN combat mechanics). For starters, old games that are great and unique could be picked (like Denni’s Survival Games for example, or anything from FOAD)
- REWARD UNIQUE IDEAS, even if they don’t perform well. That would in turn make more creators want to innovate and its good for the health of the ecosystem when you see unique board games, or new genres, or existing ones with a great twist.
- All featured and highlighted games should exist in a browse category without any entry ever going away, it stacks.
- (major) All rows to have a button in the end “More” and it leads to the browse page of that category
- (critical) Epic to have a team that defines the theme of the fortnight in discovery, having a row that promotes a specific mechanic or theme every 2 weeks. It will tell creators 3 weeks prior, and the top 20 entries will be rotated in. Theme changes every 2 weeks and all themes are known to creators 3 weeks prior. Selection is made based on popularity, but also how close the map is to the theme (no reskins or “features” inside maps)
- Promote use of all tags and remove combinations of tags that will bug placement or they don’t play well together (if that’s still a thing). Most maps die due to wrong use of tags, tags should be only for categorization
