An experimental tab, would be a unique tab added into Fortnite’s discovery system.
This tab would cycle approximately once every month and would feature a specific genre during that period.
Examples could be…
Mini BR
Open World
Hide and Seek
Stealth
Etc etc.
These genres (and others like it) are typically underrepresented in the space and having an experimental tab, would allow these genres time to engage with players.
Epic could use this month to gauge player response/player count/engagement with this specific genre.
And if it performs well, they could consider adding that Genre permanently into discovery.
Not only would this give Epic a new way to find popular maps, experiences and genres, but it would also allow the player base to branch out and try something new other than the typically promoted content in discovery.
I truly feel like this concept could help benefit discovery, Epic, Creators and the players as it would create more diverse experiences and reduce the amount of similar content being promoted.
I think a tab needs adding for “Try Something Else”
This tab should be completely new concepts only and should only be approved via the moderator who is checking the island. That person sends it to a team to test and check. The creator should get a random email saying we have chosen you ect ect
This will be a surprise for the creator as it wont be an apply but rather what epic staff think is different and unique.
I also think between 1-2 days max time with a maximum number of the amount viewable on the page without clicking any more → tabs
Further to this i think someone at epic should have the sole job of tweaking rows ie if there is a map in tmnt and its a red vs blue with the tmnt wepaons that imo is wrong they take space at the front end for such a scummy tactic and should be removed and put in the red vs blue tab
Discovery needs to get better and it needs to change as people are leaving and the entire system will be 3rd rate copy paste slop or really bad maps that are doing well due to scam promotion
