Discover Thumbnail Update

To enhance the Discover experience, we are experimenting with a new variable in the algorithm that populates the ‘New,’ ‘Updated,’ and ‘Trending’ rows. This new variable will prioritize islands with thumbnails that follow our best practices — linked here Thumbnail Image Guidelines for Discover. Please make sure that your thumbnails align with our recommended specifications to optimize their visual appeal and overall effectiveness.

Nice but does it mean reviewers score our thumbnails? Could we get list of how they are scored? For ex. guidelines say to not use Fortnite font (Burbank).

What if you unluckily land on the one that give low scores on average?

Creators should be able to see their score to be able to improve it.

I’m not sure if people realize but 90% of thumbnails don’t follow the Branding Guidelines:

  • Respect our outfits correctly
Please use approved assets and only crop our outfits at the thigh or waistline.

  • You may not make any modifications to outfits
Use approved assets as they are.

  • Do not copy our brand font
Look to use your brand’s font or find a font that best represents the tone of your event.

Most of these are rules of what’s not allowed. There isn’t much about best practices other than:

All images should:

This seems pretty vague.

Where does it say to NOT use the fortnite font(Burbank)? I did not see that.

I agree with this, the guidelines show things that are forbidden, so how can you score something based on something that’s forbidden?

I have seen in the brand rules not to use the Burbank font, does that only count for brands and not just creator-made games? I have 3 games that currently use the Burbank font in the thumbnail.

This appears to be more about branding outside of the Fortnite/Epic ecosystem. If the Burbank Font was not to be used in Thumbnails and in game I think there would be some reference to it.

Guidelines say

There’s pretty much nothing else there than the “Guidance for promotional materials” so it has to include the thumbnail. I don’t see a reason why they’d link them otherwise.

hmm

I agree with your logic, but they are definitely not enforcing that. Islands and Thumbnails are littered with the Burbank font

That’s my point. They are not enforcing it but could be used to rate thumbnails in the experiment.
