Discover backrooms and Collections voodoo

A few questions here re: discovery (Disclaimer: this leans heavily on readouts from fortnite.gg but also cross-references gameplay/engagement analytics here in creator portal.).
I’ve been making islands that have a variety of gameplay and branding and general categories.
1: Some fail to get any discovery.

2: Some get what I’ve been calling “backrooms discovery” (new/updated) where they’re in the >20 pile of “who’s even looking at this grid?” and don’t get enough impressions during that release to even generate a 5k impression snapshot.

3: Some have no main discovery, but can linger for a week in Collections (which has been nice, but still not generating snapshots). Rocket Racing, I’m looking at you (with RR as well, you get the “Other” sources, I suppose, from their bespoke discovery menu backrooms).

4: I’ve noticed things showing up as New! and Updated! in the home bar. That’s neat, and I see that represented in the Sources in the Creator Portal Audience section. Wanted to high-five on that.

So broad questions:

A: why would a TMNT map (0511-3500-6206) never make a Collections tab?
Stat-wise people aren’t just bailing immediately. Recent updates, again, just haven’t even generated snapshots.

B: is really more A.1, but: Why are there so many thumbnails (which obviously represent gameplay, because otherwise that would violate TOS) in the Brand tabs clearly showing 3rd party IP Violations.

C: Has it just been that the spam maps (which I saw @Flak mention you’re rolling out a new sanction on next week, that’s great) have been clogging everything up?

D: mostly just frustrated that things like the aforementioned brand never making brand or sport tabs, my Adventure (8794-8487-4263 with over 15 updates) hasn’t ever shown up in RPG collections at all, or (4970-2691-2291 with close to 10 updates) in Battle Royale. Even buried in the backrooms. Are Collections even harder to get into than normal Discover tabs?

Thanks for your time, and the platform.

I feel you and unfortunately this happens a lot, I put a bunch of work into a walking dead map that got an average of 26 minute playtime, but still never got put in the official collection (I posted right when the collab started). When publishing they told me it is against the rules to use Walking dead in the title or have walking dead images in the thumbnail, so I didn’t, whatever. However, most of the maps that got chosen and promoted broke these rules, and I assume mine didn’t get chosen because it didn’t have TWD in the thumbnail even though technically it was not allowed to.

All this to say that if you are a rule-following creator in this ecosystem, be aware that you might feel like you’re getting the short end of the stick a lot of the time. Right now scamming and spamming maps unfortunately is more lucrative than making innovative and fun maps, which is reflected by all the slop in discovery and collections. As a small creator my advice is that epic megagrants and epic’s picks are probably the best ways to get funding for an honest and high quality map, and social media promotion plays a big role.

Ahh that’s a bummer. Was it a “don’t use the official logo” kind of thing? if so, yeah, that’s rough. Thanks.

Also, from documentation:

Discover makes an effort to test every new and updated island to determine their potential for success in Fortnite. A test is defined as receiving 50,000 impressions, ideally within a 20 to 60-minute period.

How are we not generating a Discover Performance snapshot with every release?

0511-3500-6206 has zero snapshots at version 10.

Snapshots says:

Updated daily (in UTC) with data from the past 90 days. Includes all active island versions that have received at least 5,000 daily impressions from a Discover source

Maybe I need to post this as a separate issue?
It’s conflicting documentation.

Edit: and of course Promotion doesn’t count as Discover and doesn’t seem to affect Discover at all.

Fewer than half of my maps have snapshots.
Attaching the ones that do.
Looking at Lapsed as well, I’m reminded that the snapshot there had a different thumbnail. It would be nice to have that recorded. Given the A/B tests, this one should be doing as well or better, as they were similar CTR when I had to choose one for the latest update.

so, thinking about this again. It’s plausible that Discover is featuring maps for the 20 to 60 minute period. I’ve seen that. That’s not disputed. But when you’re featured at #30 in More Maps…. case in point.
the aforementioned hockey map’s last Discover ping from gg.

let’s look at last month’s release

for that range, the blip on the 19th doesn’t even show up on the Portal, but still, it shows very few impressions for the time that it was in New Updates this week, since it was on the back page.

yep. collections are extremely sketch. every collection has the same maps cycling for months. some with multiple maps. kpop collection is by far the worst of this atm:

It has been the same maps for over a month. All the same map, same title, same promo, one account has 16 (all of their maps) in more islands.

kpop maps do not have a chance to get into collections. same is with fall guys, and tmnt, lego is very similar with just a few creators in multiple tabs seemingly controlling them. can’t think of a collection that doesn’t look extremely suspicious.

Yeah it’s wild, because on the flip-side, my Rocket Racing maps ONLY get Collections and not main discover.
I’m about to deactivate the KPDH collab on my prop hunt, probably, since it’s not doing anything for me. I like part of the narrative I did with the derpy cat and plants, but I had my fun.

6112-6338-1606 suddenly got 2 snapshots this week, even though it hasn’t been documented (by gg) as being in discover (I did publish a few days ago).
I appreciate the data!
Was something broken, and now it’s fixed?
Was it because I added Attribution (even though it’s half-baked because it’s all my own assets)? Just random?

This is really weird.
Snapshot EVERY DAY.
GG has it listed as not being on discover AT ALL (since early november). in normal or collections.

The front page of my Project still has it listed as KPDH despite the fact that I deBranded it.

as you can see in these tags.

no KPDH as shows up in other peoples’ maps.
I might open a separate ticket for that, but primarily, this is a snapshot tangent in here, which anchors it to this, still.

Is anyone else talking about the discrepancies here?
16k impressions per Portal,
0 impressions either thumbnail per Publishing
Publishing generated a snapshot (req >5k impressions discover)

As per before, there are plays listed, but no discover listed on fn.gg
