in another engine I used to disable self-shadows of far vegetation for performance reasons (mainly of dense deciduous/broadleaf trees), while kept casting shadows on terrain as it is more visible. It would be great to have a simple option in the material editor - or under cast shadow checkboxes - to toggle it on/off.
Hello, Sivan. I looked into your issue and I think I have come up with a solution that may serve you better as you are looking for performance and quality. I will post a link that gives step by step instructions on how to optimize your scene and vegetation. I have also put in a Feature Request and a solution is being considered.

I’m working on an RTS game where my focus is on performance of run-time created levels, allowing free camera movements (i.e. not top down). of course beside max achievable quality
