Do you guys have any idea of when the ability to easily alter the curves for animating objects through the scene? I love the plugin but for doing anything besides the simplest camera movements it is almost impossible to get a natural camera move
Currently there is no way to alter animation curves in Director Tools timeline. You can change keyframe’s interpolation mode by ALT+Clicking on it (or RMB on keyframe and choose: edit -> Interp Mode Array and choose different interpolation). We’re working on “Advanced Curve Editor” which allow you to modify animation curve and its tangents. It will be available in Director Tools ver. 1.3. For more info visit our roadmap: Trello
Edit: We just found keyframe bug in the Free Version. Icons don’t update once Interp Mode is changed. Thank you! We will fix it soon.
DT 1.2 Released
Hello everyone,
Since UE 4.11 has been out for several days now, we updated our plugin to support it (Free version will be updated soon as well).
Update on Gumroad: Link
What’s new:
Director Tools now supports project packaging.
Additionally, new blueprint nodes have been introduced.

what is the difference DT versus Sequencer into ue4 ?
The main difference between Director Tools and the Sequencer is ease of use. You don’t need to do any BP scripting and can export video (or image sequence) in a just few clicks. It was designed to make things faster and simpler (Director Tools plugin was released before Sequencer).
The workflow is also different. Only these objects which are selected in viewport, are displayed on the Director Tools Timeline. Unlike the Sequencer’s “Level Sequence” asset, Director Tools uses “DT controller” which stores every animated objects. It’s added directly to your level, not in the Content Browser. Of course, you can have multiple DT controllers within single level which allows you to make several states or versions of your scene if you will.
We’ve got dedicated tool for video/sequence editing. In “Sequence Editor” you only work with and focus on cameras you added before. It’s great for putting together a linear sequence out of Unreal Engine. We could go on with some technical or workflow differences, but the thing is, we are not competing with the Sequencer, nor Sequencer is with our plugin. We created Director Tools based on our experiences with 3d animation, vfx, or UE in general, but we’re open to any suggestions/ideas.
We encourage you to try our Free version and see what works best for you.
can we convert existing matinee sequence to work with DT? redo it again wouldn’t be interesting since I got all sorts of camera and character animations going on, even animation driven bp to change light color etc.
No, you cannot do that. These tools are not compatible. We thought of some sort of “Matinee converter”, but as it’s going to be replaced by the Sequencer soon, we don’t want to change our current priorities. (version 1.3 with Advance Curve editor is on the way). We will most likely make “Sequencer converter” in the next releases.
When you update plugin @DirectorTools?
Bump. Is this plugin dead? It looks really cool.
Hello, You want a secret … rebuild this plugin within the unreal in timeline widgets and just like me, a lot of other users will earn our respect … There are several processes waiting to be developed in widgets mode …
